She tows 6000# of non aerodynamic stuff just fine with that V8 torque. Hate the surge brakes on Uhauls but I subsequently got a pickup with a real towing setup and my own trailer for the Jeep adventures.

Hi,

Stupid questions brought about by a last minute change in plans....

Might actually be towing a small UHaul trailer on a 6 hour drive.

I have the hitch, but I am unclear on the electrical connections.
The truck is across country so I cannot look at it.

Do I need to modify anything for electrical connections? Any splices? If so what to purchase?
What am I going to find when I get under there and where is it?

It's a 2016, HSE.
The VIN number report says

LESS TOWING EQUIPMENT
LESS TRAILER TOWING PACKAGE

Internet reports that UHaul has a 4 pin connector, but I cannot verify that.

We purchased it used, so it might be modified to tow, but if not...

Because it's across country I already have an appointment at the dealership for an oil change when I get there.
Should I just have them do any modifications? (I can take a few tools, but ...)

Thanks!!

The wiring harness is straight forward to install. The official instructions are to remove the rear bumper skin, but I didn't and it seems fine. It is plug-and-play, no splicing/soldering required. A couple of screws attach the receptacle to the rear of the frame (there's the hole there behind the plastic plug, to the left of the recovery point). You do have to remove the rear left taillight. I got my wiring harness off of ebay, genuine harness. It has both the 7-pin round as well as the 4-pin flat plug, so will accommodate either.

I also just went through this, I bought the British Atlantic kit that comes with written instructions and there's a video on YouTube (from British Atlantic). Install is pretty basic and needs minimal tools... The hardest part was getting the harness/bracket through the existing hole in the frame; right around 3 minutes in this video:

This is the main video that I used. An impact driver for the four screws was a big help. Here's the British Atlantic video:

The harness comes with 4-pin and 7-pin plugs

That's crazy easy! Thanks!
I can even get my D to open it up and show me what's in there to see if the wiring is already installed.
Hardest part will be the spare tire, and I need to do that anyhow because I splurged and actually purchased a new spare, but they mounted it back up wrong way around. Great time to fix that!

He is correct also about the way the plug bracket fits in, I'll get a photo for you if I remember... Yeah - it's pretty easy.

Sorry, another dumb question.

OK, so the UHaul trailer says ideal hitch height is 18.5 - 18.75 inches as measured to the center of the 2"ball.

For our LR4 setups, with the Rover Hitch, looks like I will need a height raising adjuster as the intermediate.
(I have the Rover hitch - just finished rebuilding it - it came with the vehicle but no key. Works great now!)

It's unlikely I will use this adjuster again, but I believe in buying quality, so what brand do you recommend?

Leaning toward the Rhino unit - because I know the brand.

Thanks.

This one, $170.
