Hey gang. While I currently have a spare tire mount on passenger side, I'm adding the jerry can carrier to the driver side which will block the plate and camera. I'm interested in pics seeing how y'all tackled the relocation and what you used, where you ran the wiring etc.

TIA

I don't have an answer for you but would like to also have custom cameras. One for left and right sides plus the rear so that I can black-out the windows in back. Haven't found outdoor hi-res cameras yet that are small enough. But I'd like to hook them up to a linux box with a touch screen and then I could pick whatever views or all views dynamically while driving. That would allow the removal of the rear view in the windshield which I'd like very much. A camera could mount near its place looking forward.

The jeeps have a camera that goes through the center bore of the spare, seems to work well until you hang something on the spare tire that blocks the view (like a trasharoo). Wiring is another matter, since the camera is in the hatch not the tailgate...

Amazon camera, mounted to the spare rack with a piece of heater hose so it pokes out of the center of the spare. You can see the vinyl tube encasing the cable where it joins the bumper at the hinge point at lower right.

That's a solution that works for sure, but I do run a trash bag on my back, and I have a tire cover on my spare to boot. I think I'll have to find something to mount on the jerry can holder which will house both the camera, license plate, and light.

extra credit if you find a way to reuse the license plate light/camera holder handle thing from the tailgate and mount that to the jerry can holder. :D

I did this on a previous LR4 of mine and didn't love it as much as I thought I would.

Take into consideration I have the Terrafirma swing away tire carrier, and the spare tire blocking the view of my backup camera was the impetus to install another camera.

So I bought a spare time camera mount (camera included) like this:

And a Fakra to RCA video cable adapter:

I tapped into the backup lights in the rear quarter panel to power the camera when the vehicle's in reverse, but if I was going to do it again, I'd tap into the power provided to the factory camera so it would stay on a bit longer.

Videos of mounted camera:

Video of what the interior screen looks like with the stock camera first, then the tire mounted camera. In the end I didn't care for the tire mounted camera because I lost visibility of the hitch, which is really useful because I do a bit of towing.

Hope this helps!

That looks pretty clean. I'm just stuck because my spare wears a NBX trash bag so no good place to mount. I'll keep looking.
