    Interesting Electrical Problem

97 Disco: 90k Miles This has happened to me before but I cant remember what I did to correct. Sometimes there is no electricity going to anything in the vehicle. No Dome light, no anything. BUT, when I turn the headlights on and off everything comes back to like and the vehicle starts...

Service Engine Light - Gas Cap?

Doesn't the "Service Engine" light have to be reset manually? It came on for me at 85,000 miles. Following Joey's and others' instructions, I removed the appropriate relay from behind the passenger side floor panel and reset it by inserting the end of a paper clip into the hole under the...

    I need some Shock/Coil advice

Joey is 100% right! Get a Bilstein steering damper too. Lower quality ones will wear out fast. I bought a manual spring compressor (basically two long clamps) from a local auto parts store for $35 and put new front spring in in a couple of hours. Big difference in handling (better). Good...

    I need some Shock/Coil advice

shocks not too hard and you can do them yourself. Four nuts hold down the shock towers under the hood and are easy to remove. The nut and bushings are a little tight space-wise on the bottom but you can get them off and back on with a little patience. Rears are pretty standard...

    Serious SSSSSttutter!!! Disco V8

97 Disco SE7. 85000 miles. Oil Light Flicker: Drop pan and clean screen on intake line. Lambda Sensors: Same problem. After 200 miles of highway driving a code for the O2 sensor would trip. Plus fuel economy took a nose dive. Changed the O2 sensors (4). Everything seems ok. No more...

    Serious SSSSSttutter!!! Disco V8

Same problem at highway speed with cruise control on. Changed VSS, problem gone!!!

    Loose Steering 1996 Discovery SE7

Tie rod ends (four total) and new steering damper would probably help alot. British Atlantic has a kit that includes all four. Also order a tool to remove the tie rod ends. Fancy one will cost but a "pickle fork" is only a couple of bucks. Bilstein steering damper is the best. Less than...

    Changing O2 Sensors

Joey: For my 97 SE7, which of these should I order? And, All four are the same, right? Oxygen Sensors - ERR6729 only $89.50 ERR1834 only $99.50 AMR6244 only $119.95 Also, should I order a new VSS to stop some highway hesitation I get once in a while or can it be adjusted...

    Changing O2 Sensors

I reset it but it there was nothing to doing it. I thought about just removing it and I know it would do no harm but I figured I'd leave it in for now. Thanks for the O2 advice joey. I am ordering four replacements this morning from your guy.

    Found FREE Codes Website

I bought a code reader/deleter from Pep Boys for $80. It works on any 1996 and later vehicle, even my 2003 Chevy Venture van. It has a booklet with all of the codes and what they mean. It was a great inexpensive investment.

    Changing O2 Sensors

Thanks Joey. 84k on the D1. Just reset my Service Engine light and I bet the O2 sensors have never been replaced. Are all four the same or do I order two pre catalyst and two post catalyst. I was checking the parts places on the web and I wasn't sure. Thanks again

    service engine soon

You can also reset the reminder by inserting a small jeweler's screw driver into the hole under the sticker on the relay while the ignition is on. You have to touch two metal prongs in the relay at the same time to reset. I just did it Sunday night. Somewhere way back there is a thread...

    Changing O2 Sensors

Hi Mike: No odor. engine is running very nicely. I put new plugs and high pro wires in about 6 months ago. Maybe I'll pull the plugs and clean them anyway. Is there a normal telltale signe when the O2 sensors go bad?

    Changing O2 Sensors

My 97 SE7, 84k miles is runnig great but the fuel economy has dropped from about 14-15 in the city to 12. Plugs, wires, everything else good shape. I've had this baby since 11/04 with 63k miles on it and I have done every other imaginable repair and replacement job on it except changing the...

    Steering vibration on Discovery 1

Tires!!! and as Joey wrote, steering stabilizer. Tire balance and wear. I had the death wobble in the worst way on my 97 SE7. New tires got rid of the worst of it but a new Bilstein stabilizer really did the trick. Check allignment too.

Oil Light Flicker - 98 Disco

Have you ever cleaned the screen on the oil intake line that is in the sump? You have to drop the oil pan to do it. I had the same thing happen. So much gunk accumulates in the sump that it clogs the screen and intake and not enough oil can get to the engine. Once I dropped the pan and...

    Knock at highway speeds

Hesitation....Not a knock like a rod gone bad or oil starvation noise. I just saw the post by Russ 0001 and it is the same thing.

    Knock at highway speeds

Fixed the death wobble now I am getting an intermittent knock or hesitation at highway speed (65-75). Nothing drastic but very noticable. Not throwing any codes. Read that it could be the vehicle speed sensor. If yes, where is the best place to buy and should I replace anything else? I...

    Help!!! Disco Won't Start!

Joey: I've noticed that sometimes when the key wont turn in the ignition it is an central alarm issue (spider box wires losing their connection???). If you hit the alarm setting botton on your keychain wait a beat and then disable the alarm, the key will turn and the engine starts. Does...

    Shocks/ Wheels wobble

Put new Bilstein steering damper in and reset front allignment. Drove from Chicago to Indy and back. Felt like brand new. Old steering damper (not Bilstein) less than a year old and it was shot.

    Shocks/ Wheels wobble

Mike: New tires did the trick. After changing bushings, shocks, springs and tie rod ends, the Disco death wobble got considerably worse. Every little bump on the freeway would set off the vibration. Tire tread looked ok but I read that tire imbalance could also be a problem. Tire guy said...
