    Think I'm totalled?

I don't think it's totalled, personally... I guess we'll find out. I've seen far more substantial repair work, with perfect results.

1791 Navigation Hack and NEW 2008 Map Disc

As with the other thread, I'll help anyone for free... if you are around me in the S.F. Bay Area and can't follow the instructions for whatever reason, bring your original 2008 DVD disc and a blank DL DVD (~$2) and we'll do it "live." By the way, "fair use" backup rights technically only apply...

Of course, you've ruled out the battery, right?

1791 Navigation Hack and NEW 2008 Map Disc

angasreid, please don't even imply copyright violation in a public forum. (The wink.) Not cool. Especially selling your "backup help" service for $50...

    the gas OCTANE question....

Yep, those excellent Land Rover dealers all employ internal combustion engine design engineers. The fact is the engine was designed for a higher compression ratio to function "as designed", which can't be delivered by 87 octane in many environments/altitudes. But of course, we have...

    the gas OCTANE question....

Use search; you'll get many hits and we likely don't need another thread. For me, my MPG decreases with less than optimal octane... but I'm at sea level most of the time. "Your mileage/experiences may vary."

    2006 LR3 V6 quick question

$3.40/gallon for Premium? That's a bargain. We're at $4.09-$4.29 here in Northern California.

'08 Nav DVD - big difference?

http://www.navteq.com/index.html -- look for yourself. "Map Reporter" will allow you to look at the current database. Only you can decide if any updated info is worth it to you.

Power Outlet - Cigarette Lighter - how to mod?

No documentation beyond "run a new bypass wire to the battery" or equivalent. There is no simple solution.

    LR3 wishlist

If I remember correctly, power folding mirrors and power steering column adjustment started to appear in North America in 2008... at least for loaded ones. The mirrors barely fold; I'm not sure it's that useful.

Trailer hitch receiver stowage and attachment...

The hitch receiver storage insert can be purchased from your parts desk. It's likely not worth it. It was dropped from the factory after 2005 on all models, when the hitch receiver was dropped as an "option" from the factory. In reality, I never keep it there... when I need it, it's...

tv through nav, anyone try this yet?

broiler, all LR3s have the Navigation brains and DVD-ROM reader under the seat... well, if equipped with factory Navigation, of course. This is likely a GVIF (the video interface) bypass solution.

tv through nav, anyone try this yet?

The reference is likely for Range Rover, which used a BMW system before that... and should probably say "2005+"

tv through nav, anyone try this yet?

There are just two 'real' solutions... Tricking the system with a fake Land Rover TV tuner option (Nav-TV module) so you can use the rear input outside of diag mode. Or trying to bypass the system entirely and feeding the screen directly (likely via the GVIF interface) with a hard switch... I...

    NAV map update mailer...

The Land Rover web site links you to the map disc site, too. It's not exactly hidden.

Sorry, I have no idea... My LR3 pre-dates these attachments.

    Child Safety Seat

You really shouldn't use the connectors not intended for the seat, since they weren't designed or tested for that use. Use the seat belt for the center non-LATCH seat.

    Front parking sensor

Are there front sensors? (Look at the bumper.) If you do have them, time to visit your service department for a diagnosis. Also, PDC will turn on when it thinks you are parallel parking without you pressing the button manually.

    Considering upgrading the stereo

If you didn't have Navigation and PTI, you could pull the head unit, too, and replace it... but it would obviously require some custom work to look decent. It won't kill your car, but you'll lose access to the settings menu in the instrument panel.

Altimeter Maxes out at 9990 ft.? Really?

Yes, It's likely a UI design flaw that limits the characters. Seems silly, doesn't it?

    settling after shut off

Yep, you can't program your key fob to do it in the way you want... that function is really only to assist with hitching a trailer, and it requires your Emergency Blinkers to be on as a safety lockout while you raise/lower with the fob. If you want it to lower the car to access before you exit...

    Voice Recognition

You need to train yourself to speak like it wants. One big mistake is to speak too loudly. Try switching Voice Settings --> Voice Language between US English Male, US English Female and UK English. You may have different luck with the other settings. I know a few males that work better with...

2006-2007 GPS DVD Update - 1791 Hack Found

Friend has new disc now; removing file still works. I have no significant need to update the maps yet, so I'll be delaying this purchase for a while.
