Let me first say that I have done some research here as to the best way to latch down the base of a child safety seat in the 2nd row in the middle. I'm about to be a first time father in about a week and I'm still a bit confused. If someone could post some pictures of how they latched down their base that would be awesome.

Thanks!

First of all... Congratulations!!! We just had our first about three months ago and I ended up buying the LR3 because I needed to be able to haul him around. Second, I just ran out an snapped some pictures. Pictures
I'm using a seat protector. I don't know what model you are using, but most need to be leveled in some way. On the Graco SnugRide that we have the base leveler is on the middle setting and seems to work perfectly.

Let me know if you still have questions!

Thank you very much for the quick response. Can you please show where the harnesses are mounted to. Thanks for your time and effort.

What kind of car seat do you have? The one that we have has a separate seat that you strap the baby into and then it just snaps down into that base that I showed you. I just added some more pictures to the same album as before. They should be up by now.

It seems like there should be more to it, but with the LATCH system all you have to do is snap the two ends into the LATCH points (they're actually on the inside part of the outboard seats) and then tighten it all up.

Ooops, edited - wrong carseat name

The Britax Companion does not need any levelling in our '05 HSE, the seat angle works perfectly with the base. No LATCH system for the middle seat just means a simple run with the seat belt through the base - pretty straightforward.

In the end, however, I heartily recommend taking your new car seat in for a fitting if such a service is available in your area - many hopsitals and local public safety departments offer this service for free. For me, the peace of mind was worth the time... goodness knows there are enough other new things to worry about at such a time!

Another round of congratulations to you.

I have the same style that you have. I just dont remember seeing those two anchoring points in my LR3. I will be definately attacking this in the morning. Thanks again for the pictures. They really do help out alot.

Props to you Lyon.

You're welcome. My understanding is that all new cars sold after 2001 or so have LATCH anchors. Get your face down there in the crack and you'll find those anchors!

Oh, and sleep now because soon there will be no sleep at your house. ;-)

Interesting...since the center seat doesn't have LATCH, it looks like you are use the inside LATCH mounts of the side seats to throw the base in the center. Do the seat belts still work for the side seats if you do that? Anyway, I know I can put it in the center and just use the seatbelt, I just like the simplicity of the LATCH.

I may give that a try. Our base (chicco) is behind the passenger seat. Works fine, but it does limit, severely, how far the passenger seat can go back.

You really shouldn't use the connectors not intended for the seat, since they weren't designed or tested for that use. Use the seat belt for the center non-LATCH seat.

Hey, I looked into it and at least for our seat we aren't supposed to use the LATCH anchors in the inside. I've remedied the problem and also noted that I need to use a locking device on the belt so as to prevent the lap portion from slipping.

I guess that's what I get for relying on the dealer when he said that I could just stick the base in the middle.
