    How to rebuild front Calipers?

One's insurance company would probably like it better if one installed new calipers and lines as opposed to rebuilding. Rebuilding is fine if one has the tooling and ability however new calipers are fairly inexpensive in my opinion from say Atlantic British. I rebuilt my old ones and I'm...

Which brakes wear faster - front or rear?

Rear pads and rotors should most generally last much longer as mike states. However lately I've seen newer "green" materials being used on rear pads probably made out of bamboo shoots or something. Additionally it seems the growing trend is to use these newer "green" materials for an...

Considering purchasing a 2003 Discovery and need help.

Boohoo the 96 jeep grand Cherokee in our family is a piece of junk8 cylinder small torque converter trash. It's always being worked on. My 95 has more miles on it and cost much less to maintain. Funny how the relationship of a vehicle to driver is. My discovery is the best vehicle I've...

Can't change gear on a long journey

Have you checked the fluid level in the transmission lately? If the pressure of the pedal feels fine I would think throw out bearing or pressure plate trouble along with proper fluid level. Heat kills. Tom could also be correct however usually the hydraulics wouldn't cause this problem if the...

    bad belt

Hope it's a bosch alternator. The oem's last exactly 45,000 went thru two before I went with Bosch. I'm still cruising with over 55,000 on it. Checked it this am and am still at a whopping 14.6volts with lites and such on.

    bad belt

Sound to me like a bad alternator. The idiot lite ( and that is just what it is) won't always lite up. The tach is driven by the alternator. In fact a tried several new cheap alternators neither of them would drive the tach. I suppose the belt could be slipping if it's badly worn I suppose...

What is this part that has fallen from my disco?

I suppose they might be expensive. With a little imagination one could make one out of old tires or other type material and mechanically attach it. After all it's just a stop. A new one would probably fall apart just as quickly.

What is this part that has fallen from my disco?

Yup there are four of them. Two in front and two on the back. Just one of mine fell off. The other is getting ready to come off .

What is this part that has fallen from my disco?

Under rear axle between axle and chassis. It fell off a plate that is approximately 3x5 inch . I think they must be vulcanized to the metal plate. Rust does a number to them. Thinking about drilling a small hoe thru the rubber then attaching it to the plate with tie wraps. They are just...

    Powder Coating

Regardless of what you use start by using a product called chassis saver. It smells very strong. A watery product that when used really protects. Must be put on within two hours after sandblasting, primer and paint products go over it very nicely. I repaint underneath my chassis every year...

coolant leaking out of head gasket

Water noise in cabin because your heater core doesn't have enough coolant. The coolant you lost needs to be replenished by purging coolant system. Water pump issue can be checked by trying to wiggle fan and see if there is play at water pump. When my pump went bad it did the same thing. No...

    code erasing

Disconnecting battery from radio or vehicle if you will is why your radio doesn't work. Best to get the code and write it down. Three tries and then you'll have to let it set with no battery for ten or so minutes before you try it again.

Sounds like the solenoid (located on the starter) might be bad. That is if you did Jump right to the starter as previously mentioned.

    winter tires recommended?

I wish I had steals on it as the alloys hold up just fine but if you take them to the wrong person to mount they will leak. I just hate it when ya get new tires and they loose 10lb's or more a week and the service mngr blames it on alloy wheels. I've only got one place that has done it right...
