    RPM Needle Flickering

Some of us have found this to be due to old transmission fluid. It appears that the old fluid affects the torque converter which does not slip or engage correctly which leads to these rpm fluctuations. See this thread: https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr4-38/strange-rpm-fluctuation-101929/ I...

    Lessons Learned Rebuilding 5.0 V8 2012 LR4 Engine

I'm glad to see more people tackling this project. Thanks for posting these lessons. The more often this is done the greater the collective knowledge about this process which should make it much easier for those in the future. When I did mine a few months ago I could only find one good thread of...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

The head bolts have a built-in flange so the holes are large enough to accommodate those. You should be able to put a TP60 drive on a short extension down into the hole. I did try a Ribe type before i heard of the TP60, Ribe was slightly different and didn't fit. Not that I recommend it...

Little rubber bumper the top hatch comes down on?

I actually just took another look at my order from last month. CFM500010 is the same part number that I used to order overslam bumpers for the passenger doors. I think these are a lot larger than the pictures show. The tiny little rubber bumpers that you are referencing for the tailgate are...

I looked for these briefly a while back and came up empty. Nice find. Let us know if they do indeed fit. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

85.5 944 n/a so the late interior. Was just thinking about a turbo the other day, but I daily this one to work 30min each way and it has not left me stranded in 4 years. Not sure if the turbo complexity could do the same. So much fun to drive! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

My thoughts are these: - If done right on a solid foundation I so far have 5000 miles of hard driving to prove that it can be done - Doing it right would include quality parts and not skipping steps like machining the head. - The solid foundation would be making sure you are working on a...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

About 5K miles so far. That includes towing, so have not been taking easy. As far as tools, I have been holding onto them for now. But we can talk later if you don't find something elsewhere. I have rented out the ns300l kit once already, so that would be easy if you want to do that. Sent...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

Just finished a 100mi round trip towing over some nice elevation. So far so good! Nothing different comes to mind. Some suggestions/opinions 1. Don't rush - give yourself plenty of time to keep the stress low and learn along the way 2. Not every specialty tool is necessary, but the 5 that...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

Good luck! If you didn't already come across my thread on another forum, it should provide you with a lot of information and lessons that I learned along the way. https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr4-38/2011-lr4-5-0-head-gasket-replacement-documentation-98876/ Sent from my SM-G960U using...

    Diy timing chain

They have a hydraulic component, but they definitely apply a significant amount of tension at rest as well. When you replace them you pull a pin and they snap tight right away. I agree that pressing on the chain in that location is a very crude assessment of the chain tension. It also does not...

    Diy timing chain

Video doesn't always represent well, but It doesn't sound bad to me either. As far as the "slack" you see, I pressed on mine the same way this evening. It is similar and I have all new timing set. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Diy timing chain

@DaytonaRS7 Daytona, what year is your truck? I recently did a head gasket job so I am pretty familiar with the whole top end and timing chain system on this 5.0. What I have noticed is that some of the timing chain concerns stem from a poor design of the initial timing chain guide. On the...

    2013 LR4 5.0L Cold start knocking noise

I see an engine warmer as being more beneficial in the past when thicker oils were used. Now with the 5W20 or 0W20 oils, they are still quite thin even at cold temperatures. I don't know that it would benefit you much by warming the engine at least from the lubrication standpoint. Sent from...

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

This is what I would do, but then again I just got finished doing a head gasket job on my 2011 with 120K... It's a lot of work but when you're done you reap the rewards. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

    Diy timing chain

I checked and adjusted mine while I was doing my head gaskets recently. They were pretty much all out of spec. The tolerance is really tight so it doesn't take a lot to get out of spec. As you can see in the document attached the spec is 0.25 mm plus or minus 0.02 mm. The intake side is...

    5.0 supercharged into an LR4?

I'll be following along to hear about your success. I am in the middle of an LR4 head gasket project. If it wasn't for the different pistons I would do this as well. I have the whole top end apart so it would be relatively simple to add the other items. At this point the bottom end seems solid...

    Diy timing chain

It might be possible to brake it loose that way, but honestly it is ridiculously tight and could break the locking tool or a tooth off the flywheel. I grabbed the special tool off ebay and was glad I did. This tool also serves as the puller to remove the pulley as well. The center bolt is...
