2015 LR4 - Parking brake failure, help needed

Note that the emergency release cable located beneath the cup holder inbetween the front seats can be hard to operate. I could not get it to release and ended up driving 3km with the smell of burning brake shoes

2010 V8 serpentine and accessory belt replacement

Thanks Stuart! Just like the LH pedal on a bike!

Need some help with an engine squeak/squeal...

Frequency increases with increased rpm. Sounds like a bearing? On my previous saab 9-3 the idler pulley bearings would chirp like crickets shortly before self destructing. Sounded similar. Doesn't seem to be a weak point with LR4's though.

2010 V8 serpentine and accessory belt replacement

Ha! All done last summer apart from the belts. However will have a look to see if showing wear. Are idler pulleys prone to self destruction? Had that happen on my Saab 93. Known weak point on that vehicle.

2010 V8 serpentine and accessory belt replacement

Approaching 100k miles and think the belts should be replaced as PM. Any tips on doing this? Tools for fan removal? I would think worth replacing tensioner pulley and idler pulleys at same time?

2015 LR4 - Parking brake failure, help needed

In the meantime you can continue driving the car, just do NOT use the EPB and avoid parking on hills :) Note that if it is only a bit out of adjustment then the gears may be okay. Checking brake shoe adjustment and resetting the actuator (GAP IID tool can do this i think) may be all that is...

2015 LR4 - Parking brake failure, help needed

There is a lot to be said for having a trad hand brake lever. An elec hand brake is an expensive repair just waiting to happen. Note when installing new rear EPB shoes there is an elaborate procedure for adjusting them. If not done correctly I recall this contributes to actuator self destructing

2015 LR4 - Parking brake failure, help needed

The EPB actuator mechanism is located behind and above the rear diff. Access to it is tricky. Check out YouTube and you will find some repair vids. Note that access on LR3 much easier as you can get to it after lowering spare wheel. Other infrastructure in the way of it if trying this approach...

2015 LR4 - Parking brake failure, help needed

Oh dear. It sounds like the EPB actuator mechanism has eaten itself. Mine did this a year ago and is a common problem. There are plastic gears and if the mechanism is out of adjustment (eg brake shoes not correctly adjusted), then it over winds (as I recall) and is toast. I suggest not using it...

Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

True. Having said that if there is an economic case for phasing out fossil fuels (and there is), then China will be all over it and from what I hear, they are already advancing. This compares to Western politicians who waffle with one eye on getting re-elected. I think the west will collectively...

Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

Thought about it, but low on priority list. Intermittent squeaking brakes which I need to address but weather too crappy and occasional slight burning smell. No one rotor seems to be any hotter than others. Burning smell may or may not be related.......oil / trans fluid leak onto something hot...

Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

Yeah its not high idling for much longer than that. Just seems a bit longer than previously. Oh unrelated joyous event today. In response to my whacking the top of the steering wheel to cure an intermittant annoying buzzing (loose trim somewhere), my 13yo 150lb son decides to whack the dash...

2012 LR4 with front left locking caliper

I seem to have to re-lubricate the linkage on my 2010 every 6 months or so. The shifter becomes progressively harder to shift and finally get the popping out of drive issue. Lubing works wonders

Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

Fair comment. I am just a rabid non-idler re pollution, which is somewhat ironic I realise. It's more that I dont recall it doing this before, so was wondering if something is out of whack.

Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

Hi, Not a major issue, but wondering if easy fix? Have noticed this winter on cold startup the revs are staying at 1,200rpm when I shift into drive resulting in a bit of a jolt as drive engages. If I blip the gas before engaging drive, revs stay at 1,200rpm instead of non-choke 600rpm. In...

Coolant Crossover Pipe Leaking? Found an EASY way to tell!

Huh....... awesome use of technology! What did it cost? Can see .any uses for that when trying to detect elsewhere too. Thanks for sharing

When is it time to say goodbye?

Yeah, RAV 4 defo not on the menu. I did consider a Porsche cayenne when I originally got the LR4. Probably a VW toureg TDI would make sense re. Gas mileage. Obvs would love an elderly one with V10. Also looked at previously. Main concern was it seemed that every other repair involved jacking the...

When is it time to say goodbye?

Oh dear........ another life-long assumption shattered. I know the early BMW minis were shockingly unreliable and $$ to repair.

When is it time to say goodbye?

A4 wagons and all road plentiful, but not much bigger than my old Saab 9-3 sport combi. My 14yo is 5'11" and 140lbs. He complains about being cramped in the back of the LR4! Yeah, BMW's also $$$ to maintain. However, I was assuming / hoping Germanic engineering more reliable than LR?

When is it time to say goodbye?

Agree re. Leasing. I was only using that as an example of similar cost for a less luxurious vehicle, albeit with latest gadgets. I can claim partial car costs as business expense which helps. Audi A6 wagon on list, but not many used for sale. BMW never sold 5 series wagons here. Not sure about...
