Oil Change Just Because It's Been 18 Months?

For any number of reasons, the 2013 has seen very, very few miles lately, just enough to keep everything lubricated and charged. The motor oil is coming up on 18 months since the last change but less than 1,000 miles, more like about 500 miles. I was always taught to change oil every 2 years...

    Door Adjustment

No experience with that on the Rover, but in my early days on an AMC Javelin the same symptoms came from a bad hinge. Maybe try greasing it up with some white grease?

Towing - I Have Not Done My Homework...

Thanks, that's all great info. We would be only moving a dorm room worth of stuff, just a few hundred pounds plus the trailer. Although more expensive, looks like the wife has decided on a POD. We shall see..

Buying this 2015 LR4 Lux Pkg w/ HD Pkg, but am freaking out about the RUST! Should I walk?

OK, I will report back and provide a few details when we get it home - mid May. I have seen reports on-line to be very sure to clean the channel and lid until they are immaculately clean, otherwise the can ain't never coming open ever again. After using this Por-15 I can believe it. I hope I...

Buying this 2015 LR4 Lux Pkg w/ HD Pkg, but am freaking out about the RUST! Should I walk?

I would not worry about that. There is a UTube video discussing rust treatments - you can look up, the highest rated was Por-15. It's expensive, get a quart, it covers like crazy, and will be more than you need. I used it on my daughters LR4 last summer and will evaluate after it returns...

Towing - I Have Not Done My Homework...

I have not done my homework, it's easier just to ask - I appreciate your patience. So in spring 2024, yes 2024, my D will have graduated from University and we are going to need to tow something behind to get all her stuff home, or rent a truck, or send a Pod... It's about 1,600 miles. I will...

    Throttle body coolant line mystery

That grey hose barb fitting has no connections. If you want that black bit as a plastic part you need to purchase the entire assembly from Rover. If you are OK with introducing a new material of construction - no matter how limited in surface area it may be - then those are available in brass...

New Recall Alert : Fuel System

So, my 2016 that I discuss in several locations above - that may or may not have an active fuel leak - caused by a recall that may or may not have been performed incorrectly - will be returning home in mid May and I will have several weeks to work on it. I was thinking of getting a boroscope to...

New Recall Alert : Fuel System

My experience is that the local dealership in Houston, TX may or may not have incorrectly performed the recall. In working with them, I determined that they are a bunch of yahoos. When I took it to another dealership, at University - before leaving it with my daughter - in upstate NY, they let...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Thanks for the update! I am glad the video helped - we gotta keep our babies purring along... Hmm.. unfortunately the PCV valve never cross my mind when I was in there - that's really unfortunate - oh well, let's just hope it lasts a good long time! I will put a note on the video to do the...

Thank You for all the information and effort! I don't think your costs are bad at all - it IS a Rover after all....

    What would you do?

I note that you seemed to imply that you had a trusted shop in Houston? Who are you using?? I am in Houston and my experience with all the dealerships has not been good. I do not trust any of them to do a good job and I do all my own work. We now have three, count 'em three LR4's, for myself...

    Air Suspension head scratcher

Thanks for all the hard work and the information. Hopefully WE will never need it. (Ha, Ha..) I noticed some surface rust. I have been experimenting with POR-15, I purchased a 1qt can. Very impressive, but still early days...

New Recall Alert : Fuel System

We have three LR4's. 2016 - local dealership did the job in Aug - smells of gasoline AFTER the job at every fill up. Took it to a different dealership and they leak checked it, let me poke around underneath with them and we cannot find a leak. The second dealership says it's possible that when...

    Low Coolant Light

The best way is to use the vacuum technique. I have never used the bleed procedure. Part number for bleeder port plug on front crossover pipe LR011038, about $5 from Rover. Same part number for V8 and V6

    Low Coolant Light

That seems to tell me that there is air in the system. Compresses down under pressure and then expands back when pressure is released. Two ways to address that, bleed or vacuum... It might, maybe circulate out, but I think that's unlikely. Keep an eagle eye on that temperature gauge!

    Low Coolant Light

Sorry if that original response sounded reactionary - it was not meant that way at all, but I see how it could be interpreted that way.... My apologies... I would highly recommend getting a vacuum system and using that - keep in mind that if you vacuum a system that is nominally full of coolant...

Just a bit off topic - Austin Marina

Ahh Clarkson, yes, I think everyone here knows Clarkson! The Austin was quite a car. Lots of adventures. Lots of hours on the ground... Even got it up to a massive 78mph once. Down a big hill and peddling for all I was worth !

    Low Coolant Light

So you de-pressurized the system when it was HOT ?? Did you drive it after that? DO NOT DRIVE IT! By relieving the pressure when it was hot you boiled off coolant inside the system. There are now air pockets in the system. When we work on these vehicles there are specific bleed protocols...
