Issues with Terrafirma hidden winch and SCV6

This may not be limited to just the Terrafirma system, so I wanted to give people a head's-up on issues I encountered only after pulling everything apart, paying for the winch and mount from Lucky 8, and so forth. When I open things up, it's clear that the mount is expecting an unfilled gap...

At Long Last... Modern head unit!

Sounds like it would be a simple splice if you don’t mind losing the aux in jack. If you do, you could rig a switch there to swap between the two sources. But yeah, this feels like a substantial oversight.

So you can’t just load Spotify in the android tablet? Bummer!

    Terrafirma hidden winch install

Question for those of you who've done this install: Did you have a cooler in the way? I seem to have an extra cooler that sticks out into the same plane as the back of the winch mount wants to occupy. It's not attached with soft lines, so it wouldn't be trivial to relocate.

Recognized the spot as soon as I saw the picture. I've been up in the Brown's Camp area frequently. Welcome!

Timing Reinstall - Crankshaft Won't Turn by Hand

What @Shoshone said, and what I said earlier: If you put the crank 90 degrees off in either direction from TDC or BDC, you should be able to turn things without risk of valves interfering with the pistons because all pistons will be at half travel in the bore. At close to TDC or BDC, some...

Timing Reinstall - Crankshaft Won't Turn by Hand

Rotation of the crank produces a sine wave at the piston, not a triangle wave. So capturing TDC this way is likely to leave you off by some degrees because you're trying to discern movement at the flattest part of a sine wave. It can be used to help you find the mark on the crank pulley, or the...

Timing Reinstall - Crankshaft Won't Turn by Hand

There’s typically a mark on the crank pulley. And on the cam sprockets. i wanted to clarify something someone said above: your crankshaft can’t really be one revolution off of TDC. IOW, 0 degrees BTDC on the crank is identical to +/- 360 degrees on the crank. So if the timing is off at true...

Timing Reinstall - Crankshaft Won't Turn by Hand

I'm having a hard time following what happened to this engine and when, but some random thoughts: - HOW did you find TDC again? Are you sure you aren't seeing a different mark? Any way to check and verify that #1 actually IS at top of travel? - you say that there is no reason to remove the head...

    The XLifter EAS Controller

Wonder what effect on alignment and tire wear lowering for highway cruise would be? If the goal is saving money on fuel, is it offset by bad tire wear?

Gee, that kind of thing has never happened to me! ;)

    engine stalling

SWAG here, but why not? Aren't there two plugs that are easily mixed up when you do the coolant crossover work? Is it possible that they had to also disconnect those to do the valve cover work, and plugged them back in to the wrong parts of the loom?

Has anyone reflashed their 3.0SC V6 aka Tune?

Interesting. Is it the tensioner pulley that's plastic? Where did you find a metal one?

Has anyone reflashed their 3.0SC V6 aka Tune?

Question for those of you who have done the Velocity AP tune and crank pulley: The 1470mm serpentine belt they provide is longer than stock, but boy is it hard to put on. And once it's on, it positions the tensioner much closer to the maximum compression than the stock belt had it...

    Intro! Firenze in HD

I'm not into this enough to have a recommendation. I found the cheapest price at Gigaparts, though, and they were fast with shipping it.

    Intro! Firenze in HD

I just got a refurb Icom ID-5100a that seems to work well. I tried a cheapy Baofeng from Amazon and ended up returning it: too small a display made me utterly dependent on a laptop. Even so, get something where you can program the memory slots from your computer, whichever kind you have. Lots of...

    Tablet Infotainment replacement

Well, I guess I'll find out. I went to Aliexpress and better units were about half as expensive as on Ebay. So for $580 + $71 shipping I'm getting an 8 core unit with 128G via the link in the OP's post. Hope it is worth the gamble. I haven't bought anything straight from a supplier in China before.

Possible? I'm betting it is, although I'm not sure whether you'd want to remove the big bolt or the whole mount.

    Tablet Infotainment replacement

That looks sharp, if a little overpriced for the hardware. Then again, you're paying mostly for the developer and a limited run. I'm wondering - how much of the OEM functionality is retained? e.g. the 4x4 screen, views of different cameras (trigger reverse camera when shift into R), etc.? -...

    Weird suspension fault

Yeah, that'd be nice. Sadly, I haven't really seen anything. But that doesn't mean it isn't a useful tool...just difficult to use without poking around and trying to figure it out.

    Another Coolant pass over issue

Short answer: no. The parts in question allow coolant to flow from one head to the other and back, from what I can tell. You'd be preventing the heads from getting coolant.

Crazy to add Tactical Rear bumper at 104k?

With removal and everything was probably closer to 90 minutes. AND I was trying to do wiring, too (I bought the rear parking sensor option..skip that, because mine don't work with the spare there). 12 hours is ridiculous unless the howler monkey they have doing it has lost one arm and only the...
