3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

There could well be several parts being used, but the block itself appears to be new. I found several references that speak of the all new, smaller, lighter, new block with better cooling channels. Who knows? Maybe bore sizes, manufacturing processes, tolerances, and other design elements are...

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

From wiki: AJ-V8 Gen III An all new direct injection 5.0 L engine family was introduced in 2009 (all new engine block).[7] Now featuring: spray-guided direct-injection, continuously variable intake and exhaust camshaft timing. The naturally aspirated engines also feature cam profile switching...

    LR4 Supercharger

Sorry to hear about your engine. Beyond being able to fit the engine and getting it to play nice with an LR4, do we know that the drive train can handle the extra power? I know the RRS is based on the LR4, but I don't to what extent. If they (petrol V8 LR4 & petrol V8 RRS) share drive train...

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

Those certainly are long intervals. But two important things are at play: One is that, as you mentioned, those were highway miles - which can make a big difference, and the other that we are talking about a completely different engine. These are all interesting discussions, but to me, it's not...

    Purchasing Pre-Owned LR4: 2015 vs. 2016

That would be hard indeed. I have a late 2013 with 42.5k miles and that's pretty rare.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

My rule of thumb back since college in the late 90's was to cut whatever the manufacturer's recommended interval was in half. My first car, a 2003 BMW 330i ZHP required 15k intervals on BMW synthetic. I cut that in half and did my own oil change in between the free, scheduled maintenance intervals.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

I don't recall those discussions so recently. The conventional wisdom in this forum for at least two years is that any good oil changed frequently at ~<8k miles was what mattered. The even earlier discussions (~5 years ago) regarding the oil spec were proven to be regarding the longevity of the...

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

That's ridiculous. No need for 3k intervals. Definitely don't follow the 15k intervals. I think 5-7.5k and at least yearly with a good quality oil is fine. See my latest Blackstone Labs report. With same oil, the quality was nearly identical after 3.8k miles as it was after 6.1k miles...

what’s the fastest you’ve gone in your LR4

Agreed. Which is why I said I don't like to go over 90. But for fuel/ticketing reasons, I keep it under 80. I usually set CC to 76-78 and that gives me peace of mind on our many trips to Montreal and elsewhere in the northeast.

We did European delivery on a 2018 Competition pkg with a 6MT in July 2018.

what’s the fastest you’ve gone in your LR4

I don't like the LR4 at over 90 - particularly the fuel economy. I think I may have touched 100 once, but I routinely do high 70's in the highway. It's not a car to drive fast. My M3 on other hand, I did 162mph on the Autobahn with my family in the car.

OK, am I the only one who has no idea what these frame horns are?

    LR4 Suspension over the bumps

My late 2013 with 42k miles is very smooth. The Terraincontacts made it even smoother compared to OEM tires.

    Reliability

That's the case with any luxury car, though. I can't imagine anyone with large sized German sedan or SUV not making that same statement. Who would ever buy a Land Rover (or BMW/MB/Audi/etc) as the value choice for a 200k mile life?

Rear brake job - ebrake in service mode?

The pins all glide very smoothly. Last time I did my rear pads, this is what I found: https://www.landroverworld.org/posts/171760/ In that case (3 years and 22k miles from factory-new) it was the left side (and the right also? I can't remember) that was wearing the outside pad more. As I...

Rear brake job - ebrake in service mode?

Job done. OEM rear rotors (that I had bought as part of a 4-wheel full OEM service kit 4 years ago) with EBC yellow pads. LR4 seems very happy. EPB works very well. Only issue is that rear left pads were evenly worn with maybe ~3/16" left in and out, but rear right had about 1/16" left on the...

Rear brake job - ebrake in service mode?

I cannot seem to enter into service mode. At least I get no feedback that I am or not. What could be happening? I tried the procedure with the car off, in accessory mode and with the ignition on. No luck.

    Reliability

I love the LR4 for what it is, but I prefer sporty cars if I am driving only (a few) people in good weather. For the first few years the LR4 was my daily driver, but my job was 5 miles away. Now it's in effect my wife's daily but the train station is 4 miles away. Even with 1-1.5k miles worth of...

Rear brake job - ebrake in service mode?

Later this week I'll tackle a full rear brake job. My 2013 LR4 is 6.5 years old with 42k miles. I replaced the rear pads with OEM pads at 22k miles and 3.5 years ago. I have OEM rear discs and bought EBC yellow pads for the rear. But I just noticed that those pads did not come with the...

    Extended Warranty Debate

I agree with Paul. unless you plan on adding a lot of miles, I'd self-insure instead. $5-6k pays for a lot of repairs and maintenance.
