Help needed!! More head scratching on battery/alternator/charging system... '06 LR3

Things have only gone from bad to worse.... Took it to a second indy shop where a short was found between the rear connector and the ECU. However, the car then began overcharging - close to 18 volts and pretty much everything just lit up, except when the dashboard simply closed down altogether...

Help needed!! More head scratching on battery/alternator/charging system... '06 LR3

Thanks for that. Nothing is redundant right now:) I just bought a remanufactured Denso and I’ll be taking it into the local Indy shop this evening. The way the car has been behaving I’m thinking it needs a deeper diagnosis than I can manage. I’ll keep this thread updated when I find out more.

Help needed!! More head scratching on battery/alternator/charging system... '06 LR3

Hey guys, I’ve read through pretty much every forum thread known to man in an attempt to fix what I thought was a pretty simple problem that now has taken me from scratching my head to banging it against the wall. I’ll try to keep this concise. Three weeks ago while setting off from a...

    Leaking air spring replacement

I just finished replacing the front struts on my LR3. The struts are rebuilds from Suncore and are as good as new. Here's the video which has some very good tips found nowhere else as far as I can tell. The first is to remove the heat shields to access the top nut closest to the engine; the...

    Sunroof drain preventative maintenance?

I've had leaks a few times on my LR3, the last one was just this week and caused by pollen collection in the top of the passenger side drain tube. A bit of wire followed by during water down the tube has fixed it. The worst leak I had was from the angled drain exit point on the drivers side. It...

Does the vehicle stay in off-road height when turned off?

For the OP, It can get pretty tight under there to replace those fluids. I'd recommend getting a decent height jack from Harbor Freight and 4 axle stands. It's also not worth risking your life and the terrible pain for your family by rising what the suspension system may or may not do

Purge valve and lean/ rich code

Parts Geek has some very cheap ones but others for $100. Their OEM is 275. Have you tried just cleaning it?

Purge valve and lean/ rich code

I had those codes for the best part of a year, in which time I tried most suggested fixes. I finally discovered the oil filler cap was loose by about 1/4 turn. No more codes and engine light has been on since. That was in May.

    Sunroof leaks

Yes, that's right. It's still a bit fiddly and it's a good idea to lightly grease the nipple to ease it onto the tube and also to get it through the hole in the side panel.

    2012 LR4 High Throttle Hesitation

Lol, I hadn't noticed the seafood. Always check the spellcheck:)

    2012 LR4 High Throttle Hesitation

They were the lean fuel codes, 71 and 74. Any reduction in performance had been minimal but the codes themselves were enough to prevent the garage from carrying out an emissions test.

    2012 LR4 High Throttle Hesitation

I had the amber engine light coming on intermittently for months. I cleaned the throttle body and the MAF, threw seafood at it checked for leaks, replaced the gas filler cap, etc, etc. Things were getting desperate when the garage couldn't carry out an emissions test so I decided to start all...

    Wet Driver floorboard 2011 LR4

It may also be the drain tube exit plug under the dash. Easy repair.

    Sunroof leaks

Oh, and then there's the exit end plug on the passenger side that may need a little circumcision operation

    Sunroof leaks

The exit end of the drivers side drain tube. I just had to replace mine after a serious leak. The rubber plug had melted itself away from the exit hole. This should be on everyone's to-do list on LR over about 7 years. My LR3 is a 2006 and the plug seemed to have been melting for years. The hose...

    Mityvac...

That's the LR4. The LR3 - which is the OP's model - requires removing two quite heavy skid plates under the sump to get at the drain plug and filter. The oil then shoots out horizontally.

    Mityvac...

I buy my oil and filter and take it down to a trustworthy local shop that charges me $25 for labor. It's certainly worth it to avoid the hassle. However, I do maintain my own diffs and transfer case.

    Removing rusted-in OEM tow hitch

Don't you mean the hitch itself (male) rather than the receiver, which is bolted to the frame? If it's the hitch there's a thread here: https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/removing-a-stuck-hitch-receiver.18311/page-3#post-208318 My post is second to last on page 3. The green knob on the...

    Lr3 fault issues

I had the same problem. The wires on the rear passenger side had loosened inside the crimp joint making it an intermittent problem. The car went up to offload height at about 60, which was fun:) My Hawkeye tool nailed it immediately so I ordered a new sensor (having all of them replaced 6 months...

Skidding to a stop on snow and ice

Also worth engaging the low ration gears for steep hills in snow. Last winter I managed to fully control my LR3 on an extreme hill on black ice using HDC and low 1st manual. Slow but sure is always the best policy in such conditions, especially with a vehicle of this weight. Something I've...

LR4 Loud air release sound when air ride deflates

Scott, the front end sinking overnight sounds like the front block. Have you tried removing the fuse for a night to see what happens? FYI, I tried the repair kits for both the blocks and compressor and none fixed the problems. I ended up replacing them all. I had the compressor shipped from the...

    Jacking Options

    Removing a stuck hitch receiver?

I thought I'd revive this old thread to add a small solution to the stuck hitch issue. As has been mentioned before when left on for a while the hitch will seize up because of rust on the piston locking mechanism. Even when the hitch is unlocked and the green knob pulled outward to reveal the...
