I have the same year and engine. Have you been able to check all the wires to the o2 sensors. I had similar issues and it was a bad wire. That said you can use an aftermarket or a ford EGR valve, they are really cheap. Can't remember the part off the top of my head but I replaced mine...

I'm having a similar leak problem. I think I know where yours was coming from but if it's not to much trouble could you send a pic of the area. I'm pulling my hair out trying to isolate it.

What engine do you have?
Mine was doing something similar. I have the V6 petrol. Took ages to track down but it was a bad egr/map sensor (it's a combined unit) part number LR012028. Worth checking and easy to do yourself. I won't tell you how much other stuff was done before that...
