    2015 LR4 Head Gasket Replacement

https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr4-38/2011-lr4-5-0-head-gasket-replacement-documentation-98876 If you haven't already come across that thread on the other land rover forum, Take a few minutes to peruse it. It should give you a pretty good overview of what I went through to do what you're...

    2015 LR4 Head Gasket Replacement

The test looking for exhaust gas in the coolant should be pretty definitive. If it's still running fine with just a slight misfire then you have likely averted damage to the rest of the engine so far as long as you don't run it out of coolant. You can repeat the exhaust in coolant test using a...

    Choppy idle

The worn ones on the left were OEM NGK LR032080 installed at 123K miles. The picture shows the wear when I changed them at 183k. That's why I didn't suspect them as the cause of the misfire earlier since they should not have been so worn after only 60k miles.

That was the plug wear after 60K miles

    Choppy idle

I didn't see anyone suggest checking the spark plugs yet. If you haven't taken a look at those, it would be a good diagnostic step. I had a slight rough idle once warm for a few months. No codes were being thrown. My initial thought was clogged injectors, but when I went to replace an injector...

That's all Folks! 15 years of Rover ownership has come to end.

Great breakdown! I agree with frequent oil changes (5k for me) with Mobile 5W20. How many miles were on it when you let it go?

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

Slav, You think like I do! I made a spread sheet comparing Merriam, Virginia Beach LR and Atlantic British for LR branded parts. Ultimately Merriam gave me the best service and the prices overall were close most of the time. I was not disappointed with product quality.

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

I found Land Rover Merriam in Kansas to be a great source for parts. Their parts team was helpful, easy to reach and I didn't see large markups. I went aftermarket on a few things like belts and hoses, but not on any engine internals, torque to yield bolts or timing components.

    Blown Head gaskets

See this thread for documentation of my experience with LR4 headgaskets. https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr4-38/2011-lr4-5-0-head-gasket-replacement-documentation-98876/

    Blown Head gaskets

I purchased a 2011 LR4 last year with a headgasket failure. I traced it back to a stripped headbolt in the block. No evidence of overheat in the past. Engine was still running, just burning coolant. I did all the work myself in my home garage and I'm not a mechanic by trade. It was a lot of...

Looking for a 19" off road tire.

@Stuart Barnes thanks for posting your experience. I plan to get the same set of tires in a few days. Thought the heat shield might need to be moved slightly to fit the spare, but nice to hear it fits without that. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

I second GSXR. When I did my engine rebuild I got 90% of the parts from LR Merriam in Kansas. They had great Customer service. More than once I spoke by phone to their parts reps who were very knowledgeable even helping find specific engine internal parts. There is absolutely so much...

    Lessons Learned Rebuilding 5.0 V8 2012 LR4 Engine

Short answer = NO Long answer: The intake side should not matter because those are hydraulically adjusted. It is best to put them back where they came from since they have worn in to a comfortable position, but ultimately they will probably all fit interchangeably and adjust correctly with oil...

What kind of warranty do you have? In my experience a warranty rarely will cover "preventative maintenance" other than maybe a courtesy oil change. That's one reason why I prefer to pay for my own maintenance at the pace I choose rather than paying for any kind of extended warranty. Please...

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

This is explained by fluid dynamics. The rear crossover is small in diameter, maybe 1cm or so. The front crossover is much larger in diameter, maybe 3cm or so. LaPlace's Law relates cylinder wall tension to pressure and radius. Pressure x Radius = Tension Our LR4 radiator caps are rated...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

Now that the heads are off, consider threading all the head bolts back in fingertight. That is the point that I discovered one of my holes had bad threads. As I tried to thread that bolt in it was obvious that it was going against resistance. A close look also showed aluminum shards in the bolt...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

I just removed the flange bolts and lifted the heads and manifolds out as a unit. The O2 sensor plugs are a little hard to get to but much easier than trying to break loose those manifolds in that tight space. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Little rubber bumper the top hatch comes down on?

@Michael Gain @hickersb The part number for the cap is: ezu000010pva If there is a screw there the cap just pops on. If a hole, then you need screw AND cap. This worked for me since I only needed one screw and cap. I have 3 caps left if one of you just needs a cap or two, PM me. Sent from...

Agree with Daytona. Even if you could see the outside it would probably look fine. Mine looked fine on the outside, but was soft and breaking down from the inside out. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Little rubber bumper the top hatch comes down on?

So we are on the same page, this is the little button I'm referring to. Now that I look closer, it actually does not look or feel like rubber. I think it's plastic. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

The notch being referred to is the notch in the crankshaft where the key sits to lock in the pulley. You won't see it till you take off the pulley. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

Another thought, did you break the crank bolt free yet? I'd recommend doing that before you lock in the flywheel. Otherwise you may bend/break that little timing lock or even the flywheel timing hole while you are applying the massive torque needed to break loose that big bolt on the front...

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

The starter lock tool just fits in any tooth on the flywheel. No specific notch, so no benefit to removing the starter. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues

Nice progress[emoji108] It is quite a tight fit. I was working by myself so I remember having to go underneath and then back to the front multiple times to try to tweak the crank a fraction of a degree to get the hole lined up just right. If you have access to a second set of hands, have the...
