Black Friday sale (Gap IID Tool)

That was a good deal, but not as good as the one I'm selling. :p Lemme know if anyone is interested. For sale: G3 Gap IID tool. Includes VIN transfer of ownership ($35). $400 shipped. (yes, I know this is not the classifieds section. I'm waiting for a response from the site admin. For some...

Made an appointment for timing chain fix

lol "parts that are common to fail on the Land Rovers"....they're going to need a bigger rack.

2013 LR4 with overheated engine...what would you pay

That looks like a shop that works on Land Rovers, not a Land Rover (or British car) specific shop. As an example (not an endorsement...just found this via google)... https://britishautosd.com/

    SCV6 Crankshaft Torque and Sequence

Ugh, so frustrating. Even the dealership didn’t have the info. Next step is to call repair shops that specialize in selling refurbished LR engines. There are a few in LA. I’ll post my findings.

2013 LR4 with overheated engine...what would you pay

Head Gaskets != New Engine. That said....there could be surprises lurking as the result of the overheating. For the time and money you're probably better off picking up a running LR4...ask me how I know.

    SCV6 Crankshaft Torque and Sequence

Just got my repaired SCV6 block back from the machine shop and eager to get it back together. Does anyone know the torque # and sequence for the crankshaft main caps? It seems as if LR "forgot" to include this info in the repair manual. Is there a separate engine teardown/rebuild manual?

    Piston tolerance?

There is only damage in one cylinder...the piston and sleeve are melted...the machine shop/engine builder said it was detonation. The supercharger is fine. Had there been a catastrophic failure with the supercharger I can't imagine debris wouldn't have made its way into other cylinders. There...

    Piston tolerance?

Are you implying that this wouldn't happen? Please elaborate if you believe it was caused by something else. I'd love to hear other possibilities.

    Piston tolerance?

The rest of the internals look great. It was just the one damaged cylinder and bad timing tensioners.

2014 LR4 SCV6 - oil leaking from vacuum pump and upper timing cover on passenger side

Is the remaining leak with a valve cover or timing chain cover? They’re vastly different, yet both have been mentioned interchangeably in this thread. If it’s timing cover, there are three (upper left, upper right, and lower), each with its own degree of difficulty to access. Yes, the SCV6...

    Indy Shop Over-Charging?

Sounds expensive compared to what it could be if you did it at home. You can get 10 quarts (2x2.5q jugs) of synthetic oil from Costco for $35. The filter from AB is $30. This is a standing oil change (filter housing is on top of the engine, vacuum oil from inside filler), so you don't have to...

    Piston tolerance?

Bad tensioners. I bought the car knowing it had a timing chain issue. I wasn't aware of the damaged cylinder. The seller forgot to mention that small detail. Yeah, hood on, and didn't have to pull the radiator. As you can see, I took a lot of stuff off before I pulled it. At one point I...

    Piston tolerance?

I believe a timing issue caused detonation in the cylinder. It's now at the machine shop to be resleeved.

2015 SCV6. Does this look like it's within factory tolerance?

Exhaust manifold removal - Torx Size?

A size 8 hex bit worked to remove the bolts. I actually ended up just unbolting the collector and pulling the heads with the manifolds attached. Easy peasy. I'm about to pull the engine out (hopefully).

Exhaust manifold removal - Torx Size?

EDIT: T52 is not the Torx size for the exhaust manifold bolts.

Exhaust manifold removal - Torx Size?

2015 SCV6 - Does anyone know the torx size for the 6 exhaust manifold bolts? I found this online, but the size isn't listed: JLR-303-1652 Exhaust Manifold Bolt Remover & Installer Tool Any removal tips would also be greatly appreciated.

Recommended Indy shop in San Diego

I.E. Rovers does great work. The owner is the president of the So Cal Rovers club. He knows LRs like no one else. It's a little outside SD, but probably worth the drive.

Timing Chain loose in the wrong place?

I hope so...it was a LOT of smoke.

Timing Chain loose in the wrong place?

Okay...finally got it back together this afternoon. It fired up on the second try, but is billowing white smoke from the exhaust. :( I used new gaskets and torqued everything according to the workshop manual. I'm hoping it's something minor. Thoughts on where to start investigating?

    Auxiliary chain and sprocket change

I did the timing chains/guides/tensioners and the aux tensioner and didn’t have any trouble, even with the radiator in place. It might be easier with access through the grill, but it could also be equally awkward depending on the distance and angle. Plus, you’d have to disconnect the AC line a...

    Auxiliary chain and sprocket change

I used a universal crankshaft pully removal kit to remove the pully and didn't remove the radiator. However, when I used the LR kit (mentioned in my previous post) I DID have to remove the radiator. The installer bolt is too long to fit with the radiator installed. The shop manual says you...

    Throttle body coolant line mystery

I have my new-to-me 2015 LR4 99% back together after doing the timing chains. I ran into two, very minor but extremely annoying, items that prevented me from finishing today. 1. Is there supposed to be a hose connected to the Y on this coolant line? 2. Also, does anyone have ideas/experience...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Fortunately, I already had the updated front crossover and y-pipe, and only needed to replace the O-rings. Here is the p/n for those parts. Tacking onto the parts list from @jlglr4 Parts List LR090630 - Redesigned “water manifold” part of front crossover - If you ONLY need the O-Ring...
