Got a 02 disco, 139k miles, one owner and had full 60k service and now its 139k miles so I noticed that when you pulled in a road at angle the trans kind of slipped some so I figured it needs all the fluids changed , so I changed all of them including the auto trans filter too! I noticed the atf fluid looked kind of dirty brown but no shavings or abnormal stuff in filter or pan or on magnet, so I replaced the atf with new dextron 3 fluid and filled it on level ground to where it runs out of hole in pan, so then I drive it and its actually worse now especially when you back up and put into drive, it takes a extra second now? so I pulled on ramps and added a little bit more fluid and it didnt help! so I drove it 1k miles and then the sport and manual lite came on and so I drained out that fluid and replaced it again and noticed it looked brown again? so this time I added some lucas trans fluid stabilizer to it and it didnt help! so whats up with the trans? I should have left that old fluild in to start with I guess? any one else ever have this problem?

Transmissions can be a little bit of a pain. If fluids are not changed regularly say every 25 to 30 thousand miles they tend to start to need the extra build up of junk in the fluid to keep them going.

At this point I would say you either need to rebuild the transmission or a replacement. Sorry to be the one to say it. but it may have gone too long without service.
