Hi,

My 4.6, 2000 plate, P38 is missing on leads 3,5 and 6. I took it to a main dealer who sugested changing the ignition coil pack (Bosch 0 221 503 407). Before I go ahead with this recommendation, does anybody have any advice as I think that the coil pack has 2 sides which the left provides 1,3,5 & 7 and the other the evens. My logic tells me that if it was a fault with the ignition coil pack then why would both side go at the same time?
I have not investigated further than get a diagnostic test!

Please help

Regards

Mark

Welcome to the forum.... I hate to assume anything.... How many miles? What type spark plugs are you using and how many miles are on them? How old are the plug wires? Is the air filter clean and the air box sealed without odd leaks (corners pulled up).

Hi Joey,

It has 124000 miles on the clock. I changed the Valves, gaskets, plugs & leads less than 6000 miles ago when I put the multi point GAS system. I have run the car on both petrol (OCTANE 97 RON) and GAS with the same result.
I thought it might be an air induction issue so checked the seals which seamed ok. The dealer said to changed the ignition coils as the diagnostic results showed it missing. I asked if they did a full diag test but they said they did not and that is what they recommend. I am not sure they are right and am canvessing advice before I start to act.

If it misses running on either petrol or GAS then it is a good chance they may be right. I would swing by a breakers and get a used set of coils though so not to spend too much money...

It could also be the Crank Position sensor causing your issue.... (cheaper fix and it will need to be done soon anyway.

Thanks Joey,

I have changed the leads, plugs and Ignition coil but to no avail. I have checked the airflow sensor; which is free and clean. As this is happening on both gas and petrol I am happy it is not a fuel issue however, my next thought is the injectors as there is no sensor faults reported on the computer. I have not changed the crank shaft sensor yet as I would expect this to show faulty but it will be my next step if this does not work. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Regards
