2006 LR3 Tail Door Won't Open

So i went to let my dog out of the cargo area today and when pressing the top tail door button, my hand slipped and the door released but did not completely unlatch and open. I pressed the button again and the door wouldn't open. I pushed the door back to tightly close it again and try again and still no luck. I hear the mechanism when i press the button, but the door will not unlatch.

Any ideas?

(and yes i did get my dog out through the second row)

It is more likely linked to the drzjoint reply which has been discussed on here as well if you search for it.

However, I have also gotten my tailgate in a mode where nothing is broken inside, but it won't open. It kind of jams. I push it closed firmly and with some force am able to get it open by pulling. In this case, the door has started to open but gets stuck on something after moving a 1/4 inch.

If the upper glass doesn't move at all any more, than go to your dealer. You have a broken actuator cable.
