2012 LR4 front sunroof drains

Educating myself in sunroof front drain tubes layout and from the service manual I see these two pic for driver/pass side. If I follow the other steps in the manual, it appears that taking off the inside A pillar cover exposes the tube and its connection to the actual sunroof front drain. And after some lower panel removal, the rubber elbows in these 2 pix are exposed.

I plan to first test and clean mine before possibly doing any of the above but wanted to understand the big picture. Lots of LR3 YT videos on drain fixes but few for LR4. On LR3, that rubber elbow going through the body sheetmetal seems to dump right behind the outside silver air intake grill. Is that the same for LR4? And do these grills just pry/pop off. They are functional with tubes, so wasn't sure. Searching for those details in manual

And finally, the manual did not seem to address the two rear drains and where those tubes exit. I assume headliner must come out to see how they connect to sunroof, but where do they exit the car

Yes, taking off the intake grill can be a pain in the a**, I've seen suggestions of using a credit card to get behind it, it's a little nerve wracking but if you pull hard enough it does come off. Once removed there's a inner plastic shroud that comes out and behind that you will find a black sponge, behind the black sponge you will find the drain outlet. I suggest using some strimmer cable to poke around and clear out any dirt or debris in this area.

Next, remove the A-pillar cover to expose the same pipe and gentle massage it to check for any obstructions.

Next run a long piece of strimmer cable down through the pipe from the sunroof drain areas, you should be able to feel the cable as it descends down the pipe (the portion that is accessible by the A-pillar).

Try pouring small amounts of water down the hole in the sunroof and validate that it drains out the intake grill.

I suggest you use YouTube to search this out, this is probably the worst part of this job. I think PowerfulUK may have a video on this.

Sometimes the hose can become disconnected from the plastic elbows, there are two elbows, one at sunroof and one by the grill; no need to worry about this until you've completed the steps above.

Great!! Thanks so much! I will try to document my attempt and take pix. Need to wait for warmer whether so plastic bits not as brittle.

Usually, the elbows in the front drains would dry rot and fall apart. Hence the water inside the vehicle.
You can use a VOLVO part, which is just the elbow.
VOLVO part # 30753148

Also. Make sure the windshield wiper cowl is firmly sealed against the windshield.

I did notice my cowl is not tight against windshield..kindy wavy along the windshield. I will clean well and inject some black or cler silicone to keep it watertight.

Look at the AC case below the cabin filter. If the metal retaining clips are rusted, the windshield cowl is leaking.

Our 2015 LR4 had the passenger (R) side doorsill flood early on. The drain tube ruptures in the elbow to the footwell. Not wanting to disturb the headliner I just spliced the new tube in. I do remember having to loosen the electric box mounted to the footwell to be able to fit in the new elbow’s lips.
Yes, pulling out the exterior grill was scary. And I was so surprised to find the sponge in the cavity there. I threw that away, not wanting to carry that wet thing around. I suppose it is for noise suppression.
