Floodwater ingestion into the engine.
We need a North American spec snorkel option.
air intakes on the passenger and driver side
I have only ever seen one guy go down the rabbit hole of trying to get it to work via rerouting the driver's side inlet to be in parallel with the passenger side with snorkel. It sort of worked, but he kept getting a CEL. Can't recall the specific code as this was years ago.
From what I undestand of 3d printing, this sounds like the most workable option for this, but I don't have the technical chops to do it. Maybe I should poke around some of the 3D printing forums and see if I can find anyone looking for a project.
Just thinking out loud here, but I wonder if the 3d scanning devices are good enough that you could scan the existing snorkel from the LR3, then reverse it in software...
Price will vary dramatically depending on who is doing the work (dealer, indy shop, DIY) and the engine source (used, rebuilt, or new).I just had this conversation with my Indy mechanic who was putting a new engine into a vehicle that had been poorly maintained. It was about $15K all in. I think the engine was a refurb and not brand new though. That was in California at an independent shop.
Based on the many threads in this forum about engine replacement costs because of the coolant crossover issue, I've always assumed it was a $15K-$25K deal all in.
I bought my truck for $22K so when somebody told me the engine swap alone was about the same price, I almost fell over.Price will vary dramatically depending on who is doing the work (dealer, indy shop, DIY) and the engine source (used, rebuilt, or new).
A used engine installed as DIY could be under $10k ($6k-$8k for the engine, plus misc parts/fluids, and dozens of hours of your labor).
Anything else, ±$15k is probably on the low end.
