Hi, I am very new Land Rovers, but I must say I very much like them, at least when they starts

We just bought a 97, had no problems at all on the 130 mile journey home. The next morning, we were going to put her to work towing a rolling shell home from a friends house. I got to my mate's house, hooked up the rolling shell, jumped in the Disco, and she would just turn over. She would not start at all. My mate, who works on diesel generators told me it sounded like the fuel lift pump was on its way out. He played around with it, and said there was too much air in the lines, so he turned that 10mm bleed valve on top of the fuel filter to get the air out and hand pumped it. Tightened the bleed bolt back up, but the car still would not start. Then he took off the top banjo looking bolt connector on top, turned the car over, fuel went everywhere. Tightened it back up, and then the car started. I hope this all makes sense.
To make a long story short, the truck has a little over 108k on it. Does this problem sound like I need a new fuel lift pump? When the car is cold, it starts fine. The problem appears only after it has been driven or left to idle and is warm.
