I've inherited this 95 disco 3.9 that someone else worked on... I got the firing order worked out after installing a fuel pump and relay ( Thanks to Will at roverguy.com ). I got fuel and plenty of fire.
Now engine turns and sounds like it wants to hit while making a wierd moaning noise but, won't start.... any input will greatly be appreciated.

Is it turning fast enought to start, or just kind of a slow crank?

How long has it been since this Disco has acually ran. If it has been a while and the battery was dead, you need to reset the alarm (lock/unlock drivers door 4 times with the key) if that doesnt' fix things I would start looking at fuel pressure.

Thanks for the respond Joey,
Hasn't ran in about 6 mos. The man that had it said it was running then one day it won't start. When I got it, I clean the tank, the fuel pump, and relay were dead, I replaced.
Fuel filter, replaced. installed new coil, wires, plugs, D-cap, rotor button and ignition module. All needed, no complaints. Got fuel in the cylinders and spark. It tries to hit but, won't quite make it.
Did the alarm reset...

What type of D-cap/rotor button did you buy?
What type of plugs did you install?

Not that I would say the plugs are the issue, but put in the cheap champions... that is what the Rover runs best on.

Every LR tech I have ever talked with always starts with champion plugs, since that is what the vehicle was set up to run on.

Also does it smell like it is flooding? If not and it was me I would try the old starting fluid just to make sure it isn't a fuel issue. I have had many a vehicle that seemed to be getting fuel, but just not getting enough. Make sure you don't spray it into the MAF sensor, but into the butterfly if you try this.

Put in Champions with no results....I ran a test on the coil and starter I read about Spider Alarm ( http://www.lrenthusiastforum.com/ ). Ignition fuses under hood and inside OK, battery OK, I have no voltage at wire on the "s" post or blade on the starter, with key in 1 or 2 positon whe wire is diconnected or when the wire is connected to the post. The test suggest to go to the spider alarm....no problem I can handle the task, but, before I remove the center of the dash I'd like to check everything at hand. There was no mention in the test of a ignition or starter relay. Is there such a thing on a 95 discovery...If so, where is it located?

Thanks,

I am wondering if the crank position sensor isn't bad... or a loose wire going to it. This will also cause no starts.
