Hello, I'm a former Trooper owner and new to Landrovers, having just bought a 95 Disco. Very happy with the truck so far except for the brakes.
They have over 50 % left on fronts and rears however I almost have to stand on the pedal to get any decent braking. Only when the roads are wet or snow covered can I get the abs to work. Otherwise the braking distance is very long.

Is this a common issue with disco's? Can anyone suggest what to start checking?

Thanks
Joe

This may be an issue of someone upgraded the brake pads to something other than the cheap factory style. More expensive brake pads require them to be heated up before they work well.

Or this means that you brake fluid needs a good flushing and you need to check the vacuum going to the brakes...

As far as ABS goes... it may kick in when you don't want it to as well....

Hi, thanks for the reply. I think that the pad get hot enough since I do a lot of driving in a day. I'm going to take it into a brake shop and get an assessment on what needs to be done. I'll probably do the work myself though since $$$ is in short supply.

On the 95 you can upgrade the front to vented rotors (not the cheapest thing in the world) it helps to cool the rotors better and helps mine with fadeing. Also remember that Rover Rotors are not intended to be turned (cut) so if you need to replace them OEM versions are not that expensive.
