96 Series 1 Alignment

Hey everyone! I'm new to this Disco Forum, so I apologize if I'm asking a question that has already been answered...

I have a 96 Disco Series 1 and was trying to get an alignment done here in NJ. I went to 4 different places and they all told me to go to the dealer. Well, I definitely won't try to argue with them if they don't want to do it, but do I really have to go to the dealer for an alignment? (I just replaced all 4 track rod ends, so that's why I am looking to do have someone do the alignment.

If I don't have to go to the dealer, can anyone recommend a place in Northern NJ (Passaic,Hudson, Essex, Bergen counties...)

Also, does anyone know how much an alignment should run $$?

That is nuts, the LR Disco 1 is just about the easiest vehicle to adjust the alignment... it just needs to be set at 0 +/- .5 degrees. It can only adjust toe in.... the is no camber adjustment.

Thanks Joey. Is this something I can do on my own? This is my first Disco, or LR for that matter. Haven't done much work on vehicles before...

Just about anyone can do a D1 alignment, all you need is a good tape measure or a couple of threaded steel rods....

Basicaly the fron and rear of the tire should be the same distance from the front/rear of the other fron time example... front to front of the front tire is 10 inches (obviously this is not the case) so then the rear to rear of the front tire should also be 10 inches.
