Joey,
Thanks for your time. I saw the autoenginuity site, and I see the price tag is about $100 more than the Proscan application I found. I just emailed the owner again asking to compare the two, but can I ask, do you know what the difference is? I suppose this goes to the point Cole made of how many bells and whistles I want. I'm eager to learn, but I'm going broke doing it. So that said, if I just want to cover a little more advanced things than just the basic Equus code reader would Proscan app with Elmscan serve me well do you think?
Thanks,
Andrew

I didn't look at the sites you mentioned, but if I were to do it again, the best bang for the buck IMHO would be:

http://www.obd-2.com/

ISO-(no USB adapter support) $122 + 3 day Ship Free = $122

when looking at the order page, remember it is a rover-discovery......

The ecu unit for my 96 disco 1 was right next to the washer fluid tank under the hood. It's on the passenger side, mounted to the edge, covered with a black box. It has three prongs (1 red in the middle, 2 black on each side) that snap out and it slides right out. Hopefully yours is the same and this is what you needed.

joey...with the one you have, i realize that you can change the check engine light, but can you also clear the service enginge light so that i don't have to rip the kick panel off the passenger side and fry the little reminder box?

No, it does not clear the Service Engine light, but when you remove the little box the light goes out..... perminint (sp) fix. Never mess with it again.

and does anything get screwed up if the box is removed? I've heard that you can put a little nail into it and short it out, and also heard that you can actually disconect the plug to it?

Nothing gets screwed up that I have been aware of.... basically the box is just a mileage counter... approx 84k, and it tells the ECU to turn on "Service Engine Light". Without the box, nothing tells the ECU to do this.
