I just bought a 1998 discovery and went to open the trunk door the lock button goes up and down but won't open from the inside or outside. any ideas please.

one of two things:
a) remove the oval LR symbol on the back door handle and spray with a good lubricant.
b) a connecting has somehow come loose inside the door and you will need to remove the rear door panel and find issue.
