99 disco II, missfire code

My service engine soon light came on today. The codes scanned where 300 and 308. It came up as a #8 cylinder missfire. It drives fine still, but the code flashed twice. I had disconnected the negative battery lead for a couple minutes about a week ago and the code came back today. I was thinking plug wire could be the culprit, but I'm not sure. It has 57,000 miles on the stock wires, which should be fine. Any info on any sensors that could possibly be the problem. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Jon

First of all, you can't remove a code by pulling a battery cable. Second, if the check engine light only flashed, it is only seeing an occasional problem, not enough to set a hard code.
What sort of maintance have you done on the truck so, by the books, you are now just ready for plugs, have they been changed yet? Yes, plug wires would be a great idea, but not factory, something more like 8mm Magnacor's.
Carbon build up will cause your misfire also, what sort of gas are you using?

The only maintance that I have done, would be oil changes and fuel filter. It was serviced by Land Rover all the way up to 50k and it now has 57k miles. As for gas I run 91 octane in it. I know that these Land Rovers run extremly rich, what would you recommend for getting rid of carbon build up? At 60k I was going to flush the tranny and change all fluids in trasfer case and dif's. Last night I used a scanner to erase the the code, now I'm wating to see if it comes back. I think the plugs are stock as are the wires. They are on my list to change, Bosh 4's and magnacores.

Sounds good, like the Bash and Magnacor, that is what I run. Don't forget run synthetic oils when you do your fluid changes, that is what Rover started it with. Also don't forget to change the brake and power steering fluids.
The 2 best additives for cutting the carbon from our Rovers are either SeaFoam from Napa or B&G. When you get ready to do the decarboning get back to me and I will walk you thru it.

Mike, so what's your opinion on the seafoam. I've heard good reviews on it. Do you think it's necessary at that low of miles. I just need to get this missfire on #8 cylinder gone. It kinda bugs me knowing that it could get worse. Do you feel I'm on the right track with the plugs and wires or should I be chasing a sensor that I'm not aware of. By the wau, how did you change the fuel filter on your 99D2, they don't have one?You do not have low mileage, as bad as Rovers carbon up and depending on the type of driving you do I would treat your truck every 12 to 15K. Buy 3 cans, one for the fuel tanl, one for the crank case and one the the throttle induction system, they are only about $7 a can.
Get rid of those worn out plugs and wires, make sure you get the 8mm size, do you know where to get them?
