Replacement fuel pump has arrived, other parts are in transit.
New problem: I can't siphon the 20 gallons of gasoline out of the tank. I can insert a hose almost 5 feet down the filler pipe, but the hose won't contact liquid. And it won't go any further than ~4.8 feet down the filler pipe. The V8 FSM is useless, here are the fabulous instructions for draining the tank:
"Remove the fuel from the fuel tank, via the filler neck, using the fuel tank draining equipment. Follow the manufacturer's operating instructions."
Now, I did find this tidbit in the SCV6 manual, which turned on a lightbulb over my head:
"The fuel filler pipe locates in the tank and incorporates a spitback flap in the tank end of the pipe. The flap is a
spring loaded cover which acts as a 1-way valve, allowing the tank to be filled but preventing fuel leaving the tank into the filler pipe."
Is this "spitback flap" present on the V8 tanks also? If so, would it prevent a hose from passing through? I don't have a borescope that is 5' long.
Alternately - is there an anti-siphon feature at the filler pipe/tank junction, as seen in
this NHTSA TSB for Range Rovers?
I'd rather not try to remove the filler pipe and take a bath in 10 gallons of gas (until the level is below the filler inlet).
Google, YouTube, and forums have not been any help so far.
