Well I did some things to the Discovery. Both to increase power and economy. I eliminated both factory mufflers, from the cat converter back with larger piping. This may be too loud for some people, but I love it. First of all, if your not ****** it its not that loud. When you stand on it, you notice a big performance increase, and it sounds insanely awesome. Gas mileage is certainally better with the lower backpressure. I also added a nice chrome euro tip and it looks AWESOME!
I then eliminated the factory air box (see my for sale ad for the used K&N filter, Cheap!) to add some sound and power. I clipped a conical filter on it, and have a heat shield comming. The sound is ****, and the power is also there. I havent done too much driving to comment on mileage. I went from Knoxville tn and back (round 130-150 miles round trip) and used about 6 or 7 gallons. My mileage is about 19-22 mpg. I am pretty happy so far. I will have to get some pics of the disco on here.

Don't be surprised if after the ECU catches up you not right back to your old fuel economy
levels.

Eh, so far I have put quite a few miles on it, and it certainally made a difference. I noticed a healthy power increase, and the mileage increase is certainally there. Also it sounds great. I did all of it for under 125 dollars as well.

Yep, I did the same thing a few years ago and drove from WV to Atlanta GA, and got 20 mpg on the highway... 2 weeks later I was right back to the 14 - 15 mpg on the highway...

I am not a paid representative of Joey's but, once again, I have to say he is right on the money as this is precisley what hapened to me: i.e., I put on my wonderful new ARB snorkel that just rams air down te intake throat, I opened up the whole exhaust system with a magnaflow muffler, Headman Headers included, I even nixed the cats, put in new 02 sensors just to be safe and, lo and behld, power went up and so did gas mileage - I was sooooo happy. But about a month later the party was over, that damned ECU had curtailed all my gains - I even opened up the hood to make certain someone hadn't swiped my headers in the night! It was about at that point that I wanted to pull the whole shooting-match of computerized fuel system - put on a Holly or Edlebrock manifold and slap on a nice big old 750 double-pumper carb (and of course ditch the coil-paks for a good old fashioned distributor made by Mallory). I hate that ECU.
