Hopefully i can give others and idea on how to install the jump seats in a non 7 seater D2 (2000). And please add any suggestions as we go..

When buying my Discovery i did want the 7 seater version but they where rare and much more expensive then the non 7 seater. I was hoping i could add the 3rd row of seats later and i am glad to say it isn't that hard.

I found an SE7 2000 discovery at the local junk yard, it had been pretty beaten up (looked like a rollover). The only downside is my card has tan leather and these are grey leather, i decided to just go ahead and install the grey seats and deal with them being color mismatched (and then down the road buy some tan leather for cheap if some surface)..

If you find some seats you will need some extras.

here is everything i am coming to find you need

the bare minimum you will need

1 pair of 3rd row D2 forward facing seats
1 pair of floor catchers
1 pair of floor carpet trip (goes around the catchers)
1 pair of 3rd row seat belts (you can optionally use aftermarket seats, like i am going to)

some optional things that would be nice
1 pair of the upper latch plates, these are what your seats latch to when in the folded position. These can easily be fabricated out of thin sheet metal but if you can get them, might as well
the trim to go with it
1 pair of headrests. I'm not sure i want to install these, the seats are fairly good size and the headrests maybe overkill.. although the mount points are there if you wish to add them (but it won't be covered in what i am writing)

There is some trim modification you will have to do and some cutting.. here is a list of the tools i've gotten together

set of screwdrivers
10mm socket/wrench
razorblade (knife style razor blade)
Drill motor (used to drill the trim)

Day1

I'm getting very good at taking the rear trim off and on. you work your way down, start at the top piece and then the bottom piece. Here is a picture of my passenger side trim fully assembly (minus the storage box you have to take off)

when you remove the lower trim you will immediately know if you can mount the seats, i'm assumming Ford made all of the bodies the same (instead of a 7 seater and non 7 seater like before)..

Near the lower middle trim mount you will see 2 pairs of mounting holes for the seats..

and the Driver side

http://www.fifthelement.net/images/D2JSeats/Day1/DriverSide1.jpg

you can see the difference between the sides, the driver side is a piece of steel spanning to the wheel well..

Now you need to lift off the carpet, remove the edge piece of floor trim and the carpet will easily lift up, if the carpet catches (some of hte noise stuff melted into mine) be careful to get the foam free (or you may shred your foam and make dips in your carpet).

you should see the floor catch plate mount points, 1 for each side

as you can see, everything is pretty straight forward if you get all the items you need when you buy the seats (or you can probably order them from the dealer if you don't have some of the smaller things)..

start by mounting your floor catchers (i have no idea of the official name). at this point if you need to buy hardware (bolts) i went to home depot and got some 8mm 1.25 - 25mm bolts and washers (the 8mm 1.0 - 25mm wont' work).. they are 42cents a piece. You will need 12 total for all the mount points. (the seat mounts use the same size)..

here is the catcher mounted

Now at this point i decided to do a test mount of the seat with the trim off to check alignment to the catcher.. You'll have to learn the best technique to mount the seat, there are 2 large springs on the mount bars and it was quite the experience mounting them. I finally learned to put the seat on a box and then try to mount them elevated (to relaxe the spring as much as possible)..

the seats i bought where actually bent (both of them), it appears the owners would try and latch the seat before it was fully extended, the catch portion of the seat was angled in about 5 degrees (or so as the eye goes).. a few cranks with the mallet and it straighted out (there is a small piece of metal by the hinge that appears to be the weak point)..

after i was satisfied with the test fitting it was now time to move onto the carpet

Fortunately the carpet foam is molded into the indention where the catchers are.. i started buy removing the foam and the carpet just above the catcher and then using my razor blade worked my way up and down the trim until i got it to fit well..

as you go, just fit the trim onto carpet and give it a few presses with your hand, the trim will leave indentions that you need to cut out. After you get it cutout you now just have to mount the trim. You mayneed to get ahold of some of hte trim anchor pieces from landrover. They are similar to dry wall anchors but they are not installed onto non 7 seater vehicles..

End Product (yes i know they are grey on a tan carpet)..

with the floor section done, the hard part comes.. the trimming and mounting of the seat. I have started off with as little modification to the trim as possible and on Day2 i may go for more..

to start with i made a template out of cardboard using the trim mount point near the seat mount points as a reference, i have started off by just drilling the holes and mounting the seats through the holes (with the trim inbetween the body and seat mounts).. this is probably not the best way. Probably better will be to cutout the entire mounting bracketry and spring in the trim so the seat mounts directly onto the body.. The one nice thing is if you do mess up a little bit here and you decide to take the seats out. you can simply put backon the storage container and it will hide much of your destruction..

it was even more fun to mount the seats with the trim there (as there was even less room to work with)..

anyways here is the seat mounted with the trim mounted

http://www.fifthelement.net/images/D2JSeats/Day1/Mount1.jpg
http://www.fifthelement.net/images/D2JSeats/Day1/Mount2.jpg

here it is folded (there is a self catching point that will hold the seat, along with the latch onto the body)..

http://www.fifthelement.net/images/D2JSeats/Day1/Mount4.jpg

and after 4 hours i decided that was the end of day 1..

here is where i left it, driver side still needing to be mounted (i reinstalled the trim pieces)..

things for day 2 (don't know when that is)..

mount the driver side seat, mount aftermarket lapbelts.. as you can see there isn't a whole lot you need to do, there are seatbelt mount points on the floor right below that vent on the rear trim. there will be some modification to the trim to allow the floor belt to operate, but should be a fairly straight forward trim modification. the only unknown right now is how easily it will be to swap out the latch portion of the seatbelts on the seat itself.
