I have an '05 LR3, and I recently have the amber "suspension fault - normal height only" notification about 15 seconds after starting and it remains on during operation. My question is: When I start the LR3, I can hear the compressor run until the fault notification comes on, then nothing. Although I've not had any suspension problems experienced previously, I "beleive" since I can hear the compressor run, and the suspension never lowers or raises from normal height, it appears to only be a height sensor problem....am I on the right track?? Thanks in advance...

Not so fast my friend!
...it could be a battery. I suspect it because it happens near the time of start-up. Have it checked and also have them check the LR3 on the IDS system.

I had the exact same symptoms recently in our 2005. Your dealer will need to read the fault codes. In my case, it was the compressor. Had it replaced and problem solved.
I also initially suspected it was a ride height sensor, which would have been a much less expensive fix.

i heard that the ford expedition compressor was similar to ours but much cheaper. has anyone been able to install one? if so, impressions?
You would think with all of the common problems related to the air suspensions and rear hatch opening problems, LR would initiate some kind of recall.
Guess what? My rear hatch stopped opening about 2 hours ago....VERY impressed thus far!

Sorry you have experienced these two issues so soon. LR did replace the compressors in the MY05's under a service campaign. Unfortunately new ones aren't very much better.
And they also had proactive service action for the tailgate strut, but not for the hatch release.

Recalls, however, are typically used for safety related issues. Just ask Toyota

Well, I was able to get the rear hatch cable semi-repaired enough to operate after zip tying and doing a little adjustment on what remained....
...and LO AND BEHOLD.....after today's appointment with the Land Rover dealer, I'm out $800+ for a new compressor.
With ALL of the problems pertaining to compressors over the years, wouldn't you think some sort of recall would be prudent - ESPECIALLY with an LR3 that only has 48k on it....ugh.
