So i was going to do the diffs, transmission, transfercase fluid changes this weekend (yay i get monday off for presidents day)..

then i started to do some searches on this forum and i start reading all these warnings about the transmission fluid and how changing it can break the transmission?

so my question is, i'm not looking to do a flush , but just change the fluid and the filter in the transmission..

is this perfectly safe? or should i just top off and not even bother with the change?

right now the transmission is behaving spectacular (as it should for a 2000 with only 68k miles)..

but as with everything, preventive maintenance can save your life, the reason i am looking to change it now instead of waiting for a problem..

any thoughts?

At 68k you should have no issues even doing a flush... it is after you get to the 80k and above and have never done this that it might cause an issue.

Fluid change and filter will be no problem at all.... other than the work involved that is.

I have a 00 DII with 66K. I just topped off the front, rear, transfer case with Lucas Synthetic gear oil last week. To tell you the truth the fluid that was in there was still good. And had to only top off very little.
