checking transmission fluid level on 2003 Disco II

Does anybody know if the engine should be running or not when checking the transmission fluid level on a 2003 Disco II?

I know for most automatics, the fluid level is checked while the engine is running, but I'm not sure about the disco's.

Acually the best way to check is to start from cold... warm up for a few minutes, switch between Park/Reverse/Drive. Then shut down and check level... Since you have to check the D2 from under the vehicle I wouldn't want to check with the engine running.
