Clunk......

hi all,
common fault i,m told..... RRC 3.9 v8 auto.......
when i move gearshift into drive or reverse, the transmission "CLUNKS".
what could this be ?? easy/cheap fix or not ?

I don't know much about Range Rovers, but my guess is, if it has universal joints in the drive shaft, one of them might need to be replaced. If they are worn out, it will make a clunk sound when put into reverse or into drive.

In my experience, it is usually worn suspension bushes or the rear A Frame ball joint, however, worn univeral joints, diff backlash or worn transmission can also be a cuplrit. The first thing I would check in an Automatic is the state of your fluid and check if you are using the right fluid for your tranny.
