Hi there,

I'm a new member - I've had my Defender 90 county for about 3 months and love it. It's an M reg (1995) 83K diesel.

The engine was starting instantly in the mornings in summer but I've now noticed that as the mornings have got colder, the battery is sounding a bit sluggish and gives a few coughs before starting but I know the weather will get much colder than this - is this normal for Land Rovers (!) or could it be that I need to check the battery? It's only been since the lower change in temperature. I wait for the coil light to go out before starting - could I or should I heat it a few times before turning the ignition in the winter?

If anyone can offer any help on this, I'd be so grateful.

Many thanks,
Max

Could be the glow plugs need replaced, or you need a block heater... remember Diesels ignite on temp only.
