Recently we started having some odd problems start occurring. My husband has spent the last two days investigating and has concluded that we are dealing with is possibly a warped or cracked cylinder head or blown gasket and valve job on cylinder 2 & 8.
The symptoms we have noticed are antifreeze and engine oil seeping out between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe. It is to the point you can noticeably see it while the vehicle is idling. Other symptoms are the service engine soon light blinking periodically. When attaching an ODB II scanner codes indicate that there is misfire in cylinder 2 & 8. Spark plugs & wires were replaced 2 months ago and all was fine until this past week.
Another indicator was the loss of antifreeze at different times since we have had the vehicle but no visible leak. And, to top it off no one could figure this one to include LandRover dealership in NC. For the last two week it has required us to add more on a frequent basis-Tuesday the temp gauge showed it in the red zone (however it did not gradually rise-it just all of a sudden was in the red). We stopped immediately and sure enough it needed fluids. To be on the safe side we had it towed home.
My husband has done the following the past two days: radiator flushed, Seafoam was added to engine (OMG - it smoked just like you guys said!!!), oil fuel tank & directly in the intake manifold. When removing the oil cap moisture “steam” was found on the top of the cap and the cap inlet. Valve covers are also leaking engine oil. Based on this my husband believes the Rt cylinder head needs possible work and a valve job.
We are a really tight budget - can anyone give us an idea it is the cylinder head? I would appreciate any advice!
Wishing a great day! Live it to its fullest!
