Afternoon,

I have a 2003 disco II, and lately I've gone to start the vehicle and it's as though the battery is completely dead. I'll open the door, internal lights come on, turn the key, lights go out, and nothing. No turn over, no crank, dead. I'll jump the truck off, and it's fine. New battery, and local mechanic checked all electrical. Alternator is putting out 14 amps, fine. Battery is new, tested good. Could it have anything to do with the crankshaft position sensor, and or ignition switch? Thoughts? Only thing I have done different of recent, was leave a small cell phone charger plugged in over night or during the day. Cannot imagine that would effect things (?).

Did you buy the correct size battery for your rover? If nothing else has changed, the battery doesn't sound correct. Pretty sure the cell phone charger doesn't work without the key being in.

Thanks Joey. Duralast battery, 600 starting amps, 480 cold start amps. Atlantic British said symptoms could be that of a starter going bad?

Could be... easy test would be to test the starter, but it could also be something like the alarm just draining the battery.

Best way to test is disconnect the battery, put a light between the battery and cable. Unplug fuses until light goes out. you will find what is draining the battery.
