Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can diagnose this steering problem.

I have a 97 Disco with 145k on it. My son recently ran it into a guard rail while texting his girlfriend, or changing a tape, or talking on the phone, or whatever. He is walking now.

The impact was on the front corner passenger side. It bent the corner of the bumper but did not break the headlight or bend the fender. It did ruin the tire.

The truck is still driveable. But the wheel will not turn fully to the left (drivers side). It turns to the right as normal. When turning left, the wheel will simply not turn the full distance to make a tight turn. Also, the steering wheel gets stuck to the left. A hard push will unstick it.

A buddy tells me the rack is either broken, or out of alignment.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Could very well be a bad rack or a tie rod end, or possibly a bent up swivel... or any number of about 8 things. I would have to see some pics or something under the vehicle to see and say for sure.

Thanks for your reply. I can't see any obvious problems under the Rover. I thought I would find a bent tie rod or something that was bent, but I do not see anything at all. I guess I will have to let some front end guy look at it. I am amazed that the truck can be driven.

It is a Rover  you should see what it can go through off road, let alone on road.
