I think they do it that way so you just bring it to the dealer and pay an insane fee. Common sense would be to put in a dipstick, but that doesn't bring the dealerships money. If you want to do it yourself, you'll have to get a little dirty. Sorry it's so indirect.

Not a matter of getting dirty, it is more a matter of burning your arms on the exhaust.

I wasn't trying to offend you. I was just taking a stab at the dealers. I'm not implying you mind getting a little dirty. My apologies for the insincere insinuation. Good luck with you Land Rover.

I had a similar issue w/ my Disco II about 2 months after I had purchased it back in 06. I sat on the phone with the local dealer and they walked me through how to install the new Brake Switch module under the driver's side dash. I had to remove one plastic panel with a few screws to get to it, but it was a fairly simple switch. When I got to the shop to buy the switch, one of the guys told me to keep a spare one around just in-case. You're a sitting duck if yours goes out. I've had a back-up for the last 2 years and haven't had the need for it yet, but it's there...I panicked at first, i thought that I had blown my tranny or something major went wrong, but it turned out to be a $35 part and free install by me. Hopefully this helps albeit a little late...
