I don't get the hate for the rotary shift knob. First vehicle i've had with it and I like it, and i've had a lot of cars to compare. I find it's fast and easy to shift with it and don't really see any negatives.

I use the command shift feature when driving on the beach. If I feel I'm losing momentum and revs are dropping, I can quickly change to a lower gear. I'm sure I could get used to the steering wheel paddles to do the same thing, but I think a full size shift lever that I can push or pull to change gears is easier.
