I've just recently picked up another LR4 at auction, and after pulling its CarFax, I can see that its mostly been dealt with by one dealership. It was sold new there, then traded in and sold again. It recently went back to the dealership quite a few times in the last 1000 miles, with the last service entry on CarFax being 1 mile before the mileage on it after it got delivered after the auction. My assumption is that the repair bill was more than the owner wanted to pay for a 10 year old car, and so the dealer made them an offer on a new vehicle using this thing as part of a down payment.

So obviously, I'm a little curious as to what the Dealer claimed needed to be done that the owner didn't want to do. Plus it'd be nice to have the full VIN service history of the car. I know with my Mercedes, I can go to any dealer and they will provide the VIN service history (no prior owner information), if an owner can prove they own the car now (the title suffices for them).

Does Land Rover have anything similar on a brand level, or is this up entirely to the individual dealership?

You are basing all that on an assumption. For the pic at those miles the alternator may start failing. I'm doing mine proactively at 140k mi. Expensive units and with the new alternator I'm thinking about wiring a Victron 50A 12V DC charger for a Lifepo4 pack and keep the old alternator as a spare.

I'm actually not, I just didn't post a a ton of extra info because I was just trying to keep it focused on the main question... does Land Rover have a policy around Service History.

The Car has codes for misfires in Cyl 4, Ignition Coil D Primary Control Circuit/Open, and Cyl 4 Injector A circuit low.
And when I look at where Cyl 4 is... It's not only missing a coil-pack, but the wiring plug for the Injector for Cyl 4 has been cut off.
How it got cut, I can't say, but where and how its cut, it seems intentional.

There are random coolant and fuel hoses that are not clipped back into place on the engine, a random bolt on top of the supercharger that belongs somewhere else, and some parts in the back that were not re-installed.

All of that though seemed unrelated to whether the Dealership is going to refuse to give me the prior service records... so I didn't go into it.

Thanks for letting me know to keep an eye on the alternator though, I'll make sure to have it bench tested once I figure the other things out.

The wires are clipped at the same exact spot, with the same angle of cut on the insulation. And that cut is about 3mm from the loop tape/wrap. It's about as far back as you could get with a pair of snips without popping the plastic wring harness cover open. The only way I was able to see the clipped lines, was to open up the that plastic wiring bit. It looks like someone took a pair of snips and just cut the wires off at the plastic. I don't know why anyone would have done that... other than to be intentionally destructive. If the plug was bad, it could have been clipped anywhere in length to allow repair. Instead it seems it was cut as far back as possible, without require further teardown.
This shows the ends which was only visible from me opening up that plastic strip and pulling it back. The Coil Pack Plug is untouched.

Final Note, I do think there were some shena****ns with this car by someone (IDK who), because when I pulled the airbag to get the Part number of the ACC Switch Pack... I discovered that someone had also cut one of the airbag lines. Just as with the Injector wiring, they were both cut at the same place, same angle, etc; so it wasnt as if someone yanked on the airbag and ripped the wiring. It was deliberately cut by someone at some point in time.
Maybe the two things are unrelated, and maybe they were both done for good reason by the person that did them. But both of them seem very odd to me, since neither is something that would happen randomly through the course of normal usage.

1 year parts and labour at my dealer...

Moreover, my long and positive history with my dealer allows me to ask questions... and get answers before a purchase. That includes vehicles brought in from other locales. The power of the handshake.

But... you bought a vehicle at auction. And the rules are clear: As-Is.

I'm sorry, I don't understand how this is an answer to my question. I appreciate the reply, but it's not about what I asked.

Yes I know I bought a vehicle as-is where-is. I'm not confused about that.
1 year parts and labor doesn't have anything to do with if there is a policy against a dealership giving me VIN service history.
Me buying it at auction has nothing to do with if there is a policy against a dealership giving VIN service history.

As I mentioned in my original post... I can walk into any Benz dealership with my title and get full VIN service history of work done at any Benz dealership.
This is what I'm asking about... but with Land Rover. I'm not asking about warranty. I'm not asking about what might be the cause of the problem with the car. I'm only asking about the policy around service history to new owners.

I thought the title of the thread made it clear what I was asking about... but I guess not.

Have you tried just calling and asking? I get the question, but why aren’t you just calling a dealer, saying you picked up a used Rover, and are asking for docs minus any PII of prior owners.

Service department closed early on Friday for some reason, and they're closed on Sat and Sun. So I figured in the mean time I'd check to see if anyone else had done this and they had success. I will call them next week, but I wanted to get the lay of the land on the issue (so to speak) while I'm sitting around waiting.

Some dealers may tell you history others may not. Never had one print service history.

I've decided to wait to contact the dealership until I have the title in hand and I can just drive there. So whenever that happens I'll update this thread.

I tried to call a JLR dealer that had literally just replaced the fuel pump on my LR4 right before I purchased it and they refused to share any information with me on it because I was not the owner of the vehicle when they performed the service.. That may have just been that dealer and you may have better luck with yours.
