I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery with 72,000 miles and was wondering if it was normal to be able to rotate the driveshaft while in park about 1 inch, is this play normal or is something worn out somewhere? Thank you!

I would say take a look at the u-joints.There should not be any real play in the driveline at all.Make sure any replacement you get has a greasable fitting so you can prolong the life of the joint.

I checked the u joints and my dealership did as well and all looks good. When I get under the truck I can the turn the rear shaft and the parking brake drum cover closest to the shaft also tuns and also where the driveshaft meets the pumpkin turns. Just wanted to know if this is normal and if it not the u joints them what is the problem. I noticed when I am in 4th gear when I take my foot off the gas the vehicle lurches sometimes as well as when I hit the gas. I also hear a clunk coming from the rear of the truck but only when I am in 4th gear, the venhicle does not do it in any other gear. Any comments?

Sounds like the touque conveter locking and unlocking... as far as turning the drive shaft, yes it is possible. If you would say you can turn it freely for much more than an inch, I would say you have a problem, but 1 inch is not bad.
