I have a 1996 Land Rover Discovery. About a week ago, I tried to unlock it with the remote key fob, and nothing happened. So I unlocked it with the key. I drove less than a mile, and noticed the indicator light on the dashboard which indicates my trailer turn signals are working. Odd, since I was not towing anything. Locked car with the remote key fob. Within 30 seconds, the alarm sounded. Before I had walked all the way back to the car, the alarm stopped. Locked and unlocked it several times with the key. Was in a store for about 30 minutes, and then drove home. Locked car with key. After that, the alarm rang repeatedly, always for about 30 seconds and then stopping. I finally disconnected the battery cables so that my neighbors wouldn't be disturbed any more.

Replaced the battery in the key fob, cleaned up the battery terminals and hooked them back up; no alarm. Did the "unlock four times" thing with the key fob. Got battery and alternator checked and both are fine. No more problems with alarm, indicator light for trailer signals went off, SRS light came on, and turn signals stopped working. Now key fob does not work at all. Unlocking drivers door with key does not activate other locks to unlock. Locking car with key is difficult, about like trying to steer a car when you've lost power steering. Turning key in ignition is difficult too, and needs to be done multiple times before car will start, at which time it starts up normally. Replaced fuse for turn signals, and that did not make them work. Now when I lock car with key, I have to lock all the doors individually, and the red light on the dash saying the alarm is on either stays on only briefly or does not come on at all.

Could I have started all of this by trying to unlock it with the remote key fob? Any suggestions?
