Further, should I use a thicker oil on the next change to help quiet the clatter? Or, does that even matter? Typically gets into the 40's overnight here in the winter with an occasional drop into the 30's.

I would stay at least with a 10/40 wt and Lucas.
Let me know how it goes and if you get a chanch, pull that pan just to make sure.
Take care,

I'll pull the pan, hopefully, next oil change. Should I do my next oil change sooner to see? I haven't had any problems with the oil light and I check the level often.

Is there anything I can do or add in the meantime to quiet the clatter down a bit? Also, what causes this clatter?

Without knowing what is making the noise, that one is a hard one to answer. You could be hearing a mechanical failure or it could just be carbon and varnish.
I wish I could give you a better answer.

Monty,
Just had a thought, how are your exhaust manifolds, any crack or broken studs??
Just a thought.

I didn't check all of the exhaust manifold bolts but the few that I did check were solid. I could not find any cracks either. There is a leak on the right side, where the four pipes connect into one. I plan on having that fixed soon, so that will help with the noise issue.

I know its hard to say what the problem is, esp not hearing it yourself, Mike. I appreciate the help. Sorry to have hijacked the thread Dominiq.

Let me know how it goes after the exhaust leak is fixed.
