Mobil One is a good thing, there are a few vehicles that now come straight from the factory with Mobil One already in them. BMW is just one of these, and since you have a BMW engine in your Rover.

For the record, your LR3 does not have a BMW engine. The engine is a Jaguar 4.2L V8 that was modified and bored out to 4.4L.

Also, there are numerous threads on this forum discussing the use of synthetic oils in new car engines. Bottom line is that nobody really agrees on whether or not it is a good thing. I do believe, however, that Mobil (and other synthetic oil producers) would have put some sort of notice on their product if there were any chance using synthetic oil in a new engine would cause any damage. Can you imagine the number of law suits?

I pulled the trigger a bit too quick, sorry. I now see that we've covered the Jag engine bit. But do check out the other posts about synthetic oil. Good info!
