Today while driving I had between a half and quarter tank of gas (show like 120 mile range), drove it for probably about 10-15 miles, shut it down off and on for running into stores...pretty routine. On my way home, I noticed the gas light came on and the range showed 13 miles and it kept going down every second to 0. I filled it up, it took 14 gallons meaning there's 7-8 already in it. It is still not working. Also...it was 105 today, could that have anything to do with it?
What gives?
Thanks.

It should not be temperature related.

Worn shorting wire, sensors. The sending unit is in the tank, so run the fuel tank low and take it to a dealer would be what I would do.

So can just the sensors be replaced or does the tank have to be replaced?

You can read through the links I provided. I believe some of them can be replaced, and the 2nd link has pictures. Also, when the dealer does it for you, they should be installing a new top ring / seal which is upgraded. You should be careful the first fill up, to be sure it does not leak, or if you smell fumes, etc. it took 2 tries to get mine sealed properly. Obviously I had to flat bed it to the dealer, as gasoline pouring out of your tank on to the exhaust can lead to a major explosion and possibly death.

Thanks for tips. I can't take it to the dealer...nearest one is 2 hours away but there's an indy here that does Euro cars, he's done lots of work on Rovers, esp. on mine haha. :D

Bad rear fuel level sensor. Going to get both replaced and the new seal. $500 total. Seems fair.
