Bought GAP tool and having issues getting it to connect to my Android Pixel phone. I seem to have to do dance for 5-10 minutes each time with stopping/starting blue tooth on phone, forgetting tool in phone blue tooth menu, killing/restarting app.

App on phone seems to raise "Cannot connect to blue tooth". Anyway, just looking for advice on proper sequence for connecting. I assume plug in tool, start app on phone, click on find device or start last discovered.

Have not tried yet, but I think if I just leave BT off on phone, start app and let the app enable BT on phone..that might do it. Seems that was the flow that finally worked last time

Sometimes problems like that are from bad firmware, the software running on the hardware and its probably not your Pixel although it could be it, the app or the gap.

I had the Pixel 7 Pro and couldn't use it in Las Vegas when outside above 100F and that is 1/2 the year btw. The radio would turn off so when on Teams while working on my LR4 for example, I was never connected to work with the status updates lol. Couldn't use the camera to take engine pics, etc. I hear its the same with the iPhone. OnePlus 12 is way better, rootable and its great hardware. It will make a call in hot weather too, 122F.

So I think I found the magic steps. Might just be for my phone but seems to connect consistently now.

Turn on phone BT and forget all devices
Turn BT off on phone
Make sure GAP IID app is stopped, not just in background
Plug in IID tool to OBD port, wait a minute
Start car
Open GAP IID app on phone
Click connect to last known or find device if first time

Apparently my problem was having BT on in the phone and maybe already discovered the tool

I think the GAP app wants a clean slate and it will enable BT and discover tool

Anyway, this seems to work for me
