help with ENGINE DISABLED!

hello im new to this forum and i need some help with my 98 Range Rover. So the battery died and we replaced it, but now the dash says ENGINE DISABLED and i have already changed the batteries on the remote but it still will not sync and will not unlock or lock and keeps saying engine disabled ......????
