I've been reading about seafoam. My rover has 307,000 kms (just under 145,000 miles) on it. It seems to run just fine. Do u use seafoam when u have a problem, or do u use it regular like to keep probs away? Or both? My engine is pretty oilly on the outside, but aren't most L.R's??? - hee, hee, hee.
I've heard that putting a high detergent cleaner in a dirty, hi-mile engine will cause more leaks! The carbon helps to keep the oil inside!
A local British chap suggested putting some diesel in the crankcase to help with sticky valves. I've heard of using ATF and even tried it in my I-6 L. Cruiser pickup (crankcase and down the carb) that had sat for over 5 years before I bought it. I covered the neighborhood with a cloud of white smoke when I did, and it's run great ever since. My buddys dad who is Dutch has always put a litre/quart or two of diesel in the gas tank of his gas engines every few fillups and has never had any problems.
Whats your thots?????

I used it, and have had some problems with a flickering oil light since then, but the engine runs a lot better. I also switched a couple years ago to Shell Rotella K oil, which is multifleet (meaning, diesel and gas engine), and I think the idea of running ATF or diesel in the crankcase is a good idea if you want to clean everything out.

Part of me thinks you're right, and that the introduction of clean to an engine that's become "accustomed" to being dirty might not be the most productive thing. That's why IMHO there are so many theories and home remedies for things...

Leave it alone, why muck it up?
If driven hard at times carbon will be held under control, seems you have it under control the last 145K miles.
As far as "decarboning", both muffler shops I deal with enjoy replacing cats that get coated, easy money.
