I’m at 148, I’ve only done plugs (110k) and a purge valve. Alternator went at 147k. As of now I need to do valve covers and upper timing covers. Also believe my rear main likes to leak a bit when I’m not driving the car daily. Cooling system has been annoying, I’m waiting for the water pump to go, this one has been in since 80k. Crossovers and radiator have been replaced. Bout it on the engine.

Going to get my 2011 LR4 Lux out of the shop tomorrow. They did the front and rear crossovers, water pump, thermostat, and replaced the major fluids (including a synthetic oil change). Did it through an Indy shop in Seattle (Lamorna). Significant investment at around $5,000 for preventative maintenance. Feel good about making the commitment. Doesn't necessarily pencil out, but I have history and an emotional investment in this particular vehicle. Must really like it.

it's cheaper than replacing it with something lesser. How was your experience with Lamorna? When you say "replaced the major fluids" do you mean the tranny fluid, transfer case, and diffs? Power steering too?

@ftillier Imagine a great "hole in the wall" diner, but for Land Rovers rather than short order food. The yard of the shop is littered with Land Rovers and the shop looks messy and dirty like a working shop. The owner "Gord'n" clearly has forgotten more about Land Rovers than most people will ever know. One thing I found interesting is he didn't try to over or up sell his services. I had a quote from the dealership and one from my local European shop up in Bellingham and when I asked him about some of the differences from his quote, he said, "Yeah, we don't do that unless this other thing is a problem and yours doesn't have that problem so it wouldn't make sense." Yes to the fluids, but I don't think they did the power steering. They did check the battery and recommend I replace it, which I did. I'll let you know once the dust settles, but it is nice to be dealing with a shop that mainly works on Land Rovers rather than dealing with them as a side hustle.

Update: Picked up the LR4 and drove it a bit today. Do I notice a difference in performance? Maybe it shifts a bit smoother. What I realize is I paid to swap perfectly good old parts for perfectly good new parts and old working fluids for fresh working fluids. There is no reason to believe the LR4 will perform better or different under those circumstances. I took the plunge because I was scared the LR4 would blow up and wanted to keep it in good running order for a long time.

I wandered around the shop lot while I was waiting for them to finish up my LR4. It was weird seeing all these older Land and Range Rovers pressed together in one place. My first impression is they are a lot bigger up close and in person than in photos. My next thought is they don't age well when they aren't maintained or are neglected. Many of the ones I stood next to had lost any magical quality and become shabby wrecks. I often enjoy browsing photos of these same models on CL or FB and I imagine how cool it might be to own this one or that. Then I see one of those same models in a state of disrepair and it is shocking how far from that illusion the actual reality can be.

I noticed a difference in the shifting of our transmission after the fluid change. The rest of the stuff is just maintenance to hopefully keep it from leaving me stranded at an inopportune time and should be undetectable in day-to-day use. Enjoy the peace of mind, and the time it'll hopefully give you to focus on more pressing needs.

Preventative maintenance is a great thing to do that most people overlook, with the exception of oil changes.

You didn't throw away old parts. You replaced parts that were a ticking timebomb.
